About the role
The will directly own the integrity and execution of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. This position is centered on technical general ledger accounting, where the primary focus is on ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our financial records. The hire will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and posting complex journal entries that drive our financial reporting. They will perform detailed analysis of account activity, investigate discrepancies, and maintain rigorous GL, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations. This role requires hands-on management of fixed asset schedules, lease accounting entries under standards like ASC 842, and the maintenance of accrual schedules. The Senior Accountant will also support financial audits and compliance initiatives to ensure all accounting activities adhere to established policies. Ultimately, this role ensures that the financial data powering our mission to simplify lending is reliable, transparent, and accurate.

What you'll do
- Assist in managing the complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries across multiple subsidiaries and business units.
- Execute detailed general ledger reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and bank reconciliations with high accuracy.
- Analyze significant account activity and prepare thorough variance explanations for management review.
- Maintain comprehensive fixed asset schedules, overseeing capitalization, depreciation calculations, and asset disposals.
- Process and manage lease accounting entries in accordance with ASC 842 or similar regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain accrual schedules along with supporting documentation for all relevant accounting periods.
- Provide support for external financial audits, internal reviews, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies by tracing issues to their root cause and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate account coding, classification, and validation in alignment with company policies and accounting standards.
- Support AP processes by performing reviews of invoices and credit card expenses to ensure proper validation and coding.
- Document existing accounting procedures and contribute to continuous process improvements for greater efficiency.
- Assist in the training of accounting staff and support the implementation of new accounting processes and controls.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and ensure the completeness of financial reporting.
- Oversee the maintenance of the chart of accounts to ensure proper financial categorization and reporting integrity.
- Prepare management reports and financial statements that clearly communicate the financial position of the business.
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field as the foundational educational requirement.
- Hold current CPA certification or be actively pursuing CPA candidacy as a preferred professional credential.
- Bring a minimum of 4 years of hands-on general ledger accounting experience to demonstrate core competency.
- Show strong, proven experience with month-end close procedures, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Have direct, hands-on experience with fixed asset accounting, including tracking, depreciation, and disposal activities.
- Possess substantial experience with lease accounting, specifically under frameworks such as ASC 842.
- Demonstrate a history of working with accrual accounting principles and complex journal entry preparation.
- Have corporate accounting experience within a structured environment to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Show a proven ability to thrive and manage responsibilities in fast-paced, high-growth organizations.
- Exhibit exceptional attention to detail to maintain the highest level of accuracy in all financial processes.
- Display a highly organized and methodical approach to managing multiple accounting tasks and deadlines.
- Ensure strong communication skills to effectively document processes and convey financial information to stakeholders.
- Maintain the ability to independently manage deadlines and prioritize workloads without direct supervision.
- Show strong problem-solving skills to analyze issues and develop effective, accurate solutions.

Nice to have
- Fintech or mortgage lending experience to understand the specific nuances of the industry.
- A background from a Big 4 audit or major accounting firm to bring advanced technical knowledge.
- Experience with enterprise accounting systems such as NetSuite, LoanVision, Ramp, FloQast, or similar platforms.
- Exposure to multi-entity or multi-location accounting to handle complex organizational structures.
- Prior experience in process improvement or the implementation of new accounting systems.
