About the role
This role is for a Senior Field Engineer who owns the full stack of deployment for Overview.ai computer vision systems on manufacturing lines. You will be the primary technical owner responsible for integrating hardware, edge inference, and factory automation into a reliable production solution. Your daily work will center on diagnosing and eliminating intermittent faults in controls, communication, and signal integrity on active production equipment. You will operate with high autonomy across multiple factory sites, solving hard problems that traditional machine vision cannot address. Success in this role means you directly own uptime, line performance, and customer trust through rapid, durable fixes.

What you'll do
Perform factory commissioning and integration of Overview.ai http://Overview.ai hardware and software on production lines.
Troubleshoot PLC-to-device communication across EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, and OPC UA in real-world factory environments.
Diagnose and resolve timing and triggering issues such as double triggers, missed triggers, trigger bounce, incorrect edge detection, latency, jitter, and handshake failures.
Investigate and fix inconsistent network communication including packet loss, unstable links, IP conflicts, switch configuration problems, grounding and noise coupling, cable quality issues, and QoS or VLAN misconfigurations.
Interpret and modify PLC logic and machine sequencing in ladder logic or structured text to stabilize system behavior and meet cycle-time constraints.
Establish repeatable integration standards covering wiring patterns, sensor conditioning, network topologies, validated PLC templates, and commissioning checklists.
Conduct hands-on electrical and signal integrity debugging using multimeters and oscilloscopes to measure voltage levels, signal bounce, timing alignment, interference, grounding problems, and intermittent connections.
Identify root causes quickly and implement robust fixes that prevent recurrence rather than applying temporary patches.
Act as the senior on-site technical lead, communicating clearly with operators and engineers while maintaining calm under pressure.
Train customer automation engineers and technicians on first-line troubleshooting and proper operation of Overview.ai systems.
Capture high-quality issue reports including reproduction steps, logs, electrical measurements, network symptoms, PLC state, and recommended corrective actions.
Drive feedback loops that result in tangible product improvements in tooling, diagnostics, and reliability features.
Work closely with AI, embedded, and firmware teams to ship permanent fixes into the product and validate them in the field.
Maintain high standards for documentation, test procedures, and knowledge transfer to ensure smooth handovers and scalable deployments.
Requirements
You have deep PLC and controls engineering experience with the ability to independently commission and debug automation lines from start to finish.
You bring 5 or more years of controls, automation, or field engineering experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
You possess hands-on expertise with industrial networks and protocols including practical troubleshooting of EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, and OPC UA.
You demonstrate strong electrical debugging ability using a multimeter and oscilloscope, with the skill to read schematics and understand signal conditioning, EMI, and noise mitigation.
You have a strong understanding of sensors, triggering, and real-time sequencing on production lines.
You are fluent in Mandarin, whether native or near-native, to communicate effectively with on-site teams.
You can write clear, working English for technical communication with global engineering and operations teams.
You move fast while staying methodical, following a disciplined process of hypothesis, test, isolate, fix, and prevent recurrence.
You are highly ownership-driven, treating downtime as personal responsibility and responding with urgency and precision.
Nice to have
Experience deploying AI-driven inspection systems in industrial environments.
Familiarity with edge compute platforms and GPU-based inference at the factory edge.
Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems and data Historians relevant to production traceability.
Experience with camera calibration, lighting, and optics for industrial imaging.
Understanding of functional safety concepts and machine guarding integration where applicable.
Practical notes
This role requires significant international travel to customer sites, often on short notice.
You must be comfortable working in factory environments with noise, motion, and high operational tempo.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain necessary work visas for travel and assignment in China and other regions.
The position may require extended on-site periods during critical line integration and issue resolution.
