About the role
Olsson is on the lookout for a Project Manager III to join our Substation and Power Generation team. This position is tailored for a technically adept individual who has experience leading electrical design initiatives and is eager to take full responsibility for project execution while still contributing technically. The Engineer-Project Manager will play a dual role as both a technical authority and project overseer, steering design decisions, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and managing project scope, timelines, and budgets. This role highlights the importance of technical proficiency combined with strong leadership skills to ensure the successful execution of intricate power infrastructure projects.

What you'll do
- Oversee the execution of complex substation and power generation projects from the initial planning stages through to completion.
- Act as the technical coordinator for assigned projects, directing design strategies, reviewing technical documentation, and contributing to design efforts as necessary.
- Utilize hands-on expertise in electrical and power systems to aid in project planning, execution, and troubleshooting.
- Formulate and manage project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations effectively.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, commissioning personnel, and other disciplines to ensure technical consistency and high-quality outcomes.
- Clearly communicate technical decisions to internal teams and clients, translating complex concepts into actionable project directives.
- Proactively identify and manage project risks, changes in scope, and financial performance metrics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, building trust through technical knowledge and effective communication.
- Ensure adherence to project delivery standards, documentation practices, and quality control measures across the team.
- Mentor and guide engineers and project team members, providing technical support and leadership throughout project lifecycles.
- Work in collaboration with Group Leaders and technical leadership to align project requirements with team priorities and long-term objectives.
- Assist in the development of proposals and project planning efforts where technical expertise is essential.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design and project management, specifically in power generation or substation projects.
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, design principles, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Experience with project management software and tools.
- Familiarity with renewable energy projects and emerging technologies in the power sector.
- Previous experience in client-facing roles, particularly in managing client relationships.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and other design software is a plus.
Practical notes
- This position may require occasional travel to project sites for meetings and inspections.
