About the role

Join Olsson's Industrial Environmental team as a Water and Wastewater Project Engineer, where you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of impactful projects that serve communities and industries. What you'll do

• Prepare detailed planning and design documentation specific to water and wastewater projects, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Lead and coordinate the work of junior engineers, CAD technicians, and other technical staff to ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
• Conduct process design calculations, including hydraulic modeling, treatment process optimization, and system sizing, to develop effective solutions for clients.
• Generate accurate cost estimates, perform economic analyses, and evaluate project alternatives to support decision-making processes.
• Define project scope, establish project schedules, and manage budgets, ensuring projects stay within scope and financial targets are met.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, including design reports, meeting minutes, and progress reports, to ensure clear communication with clients and internal teams.
• Collaborate with other Olsson teams, including civil, environmental, and mechanical engineers, to integrate project components and ensure cohesive design solutions.
• Engage with clients through meetings, presentations, and technical discussions to gather requirements, provide updates, and address concerns.
• Prepare technical reports, memos, and summaries that clearly communicate project findings, design concepts, and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Act as the project manager for assigned projects, overseeing all phases from initial planning through construction and commissioning.
• Work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with client specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development efforts by preparing proposals, participating in client meetings, and contributing to marketing strategies to attract new projects.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines throughout project execution.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate smooth project progress and address any issues proactively.
• Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices related to water and wastewater engineering to continuously improve project quality and efficiency.

Requirements

• Demonstrated strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
• Proven ownership of work responsibilities and a dedication to community impact through engineering solutions.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in environmental or civil engineering, with a focus on water/wastewater treatment, lift stations, pump stations, or similar environmental infrastructure projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required to practice as a licensed engineer.
• Experience with engineering design software and tools, including Civil 3D and AutoCAD, is essential.
• Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulic modeling, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure high-quality project outcomes.
• Experience working in a team environment and coordinating with multidisciplinary groups.
• Knowledge of project management principles, including scope, schedule, and budget management.
• Familiarity with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental compliance requirements.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports, proposals, and presentations.

Nice to have

• Experience in business development, including preparing proposals and engaging with clients to secure new projects.
• Knowledge of additional software tools such as hydraulic modeling software, GIS applications, or other relevant engineering programs.
• Prior experience working on industrial water and wastewater projects, especially within manufacturing or processing sectors.
• Familiarity with regulatory agencies and permitting processes related to water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to team development initiatives.
