Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company standards.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed engineering designs and specifications, utilizing industry best practices and compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety protocols.
- Support the procurement process by evaluating vendor proposals and assisting in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participate in project meetings, providing updates on engineering tasks and addressing any technical challenges that arise.
- Analyze project data and metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, change orders, and correspondence, ensuring accurate records are kept throughout the project lifecycle.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations, fostering strong relationships that contribute to project success.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and expertise to support their professional development.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, promoting a culture of safety on all job sites.

- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and practices within the organization.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in construction engineering or project management, ideally within a military or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, and project management practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
- Proficiency in engineering design software and project management tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
- Must be eligible for the SkillBridge program and meet any additional requirements set forth by the program.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress towards obtaining one.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other advanced engineering technologies.
- Experience in sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations specific to the Highland, Illinois area.
- Previous experience working with government contracts or projects.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software commonly used in the engineering field.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with project management software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Understanding of construction safety management systems and protocols.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting technical data and making informed decisions.
