Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of each construction site.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to create and enforce safety plans that mitigate risks associated with construction activities.
- Provide training and guidance to employees and subcontractors on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Investigate accidents and near-misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns from employees, management, and regulatory agencies.
- Stay updated on industry trends, safety regulations, and best practices to continuously improve the safety culture within the organization.
- Facilitate safety meetings and workshops to promote awareness and encourage open communication regarding safety issues among all team members.
- Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness in the event of an incident.
- Collaborate with health and safety committees to promote a proactive approach to workplace safety and health.
- Support the onboarding process for new employees by providing safety orientations and ensuring they understand their responsibilities regarding site safety.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety role within the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards applicable to construction sites.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective safety programs and training initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse teams.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and tools for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Experience with environmental health and safety (EHS) compliance in addition to construction safety.
- Familiarity with incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR, with certification preferred.
- Experience in conducting safety audits and risk assessments.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a safety context.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety management software.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
