What you'll do

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for various construction projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
• Analyze blueprints, drawings, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
• Develop and maintain a database of historical costs to inform future estimates and improve accuracy.
• Review and evaluate subcontractor bids and proposals, ensuring compliance with project requirements and budget constraints.
• Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather information that may impact cost estimates.
• Prepare and present detailed reports and presentations to stakeholders, outlining cost projections and justifications.
• Monitor project budgets and expenditures throughout the construction process, identifying potential cost overruns and recommending corrective actions.
• Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and construction methods to enhance estimating practices.
• Mentor and train junior estimators, providing guidance on best practices and methodologies in cost estimation.
• Participate in project meetings and contribute to strategic planning discussions to align estimating efforts with company goals.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards throughout the estimating process.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of successful project estimations.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to team members and stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented mindset with a strong focus on accuracy and quality in all estimations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with construction contracts, specifications, and industry standards.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Nice to have

• Professional certification such as Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar credentials.
• Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Primavera.
• Knowledge of sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
• Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within an estimating team.
• Familiarity with local construction codes and regulations in the St. Louis area.
