Staff Software Engineer, CV UX
Job description
Staff Software Engineer, CV UX at Hinge Health.
About the role
This role is for a Staff Software Engineer who will serve as the technical leader for the CV User Experience team at Hinge Health. The hire will own the architecture and delivery of end-to-end systems that bring TrueMotion computer vision capabilities to life on mobile and backend platforms. They will translate complex computer vision and AI workflows into intuitive, performant user experiences that feel effortless to members. The role requires deep collaboration with product managers, designers, data scientists, and computer vision scientists to turn novel AI capabilities into shipped features. The hire will be accountable for both the long-term technical vision and the day-to-day execution that keeps the user experience fast, reliable, and delightful. This is an opportunity to directly influence how millions of users interact with motion tracking and recovery guidance every day.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Ramp into the CV User Experience stack (React Native, TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, AWS) and build relationships with product managers, designers, data scientists, and computer vision scientists.
- Deliver your first end-to-end feature while auditing the current architecture for scaling and performance bottlenecks.
- Own and lead architectural discussions for TrueMotion-driven experiences, proactively identifying challenges and proposing innovative solutions to complex mobile and full-stack engineering problems.
- Establish stronger system observability using Datadog and Sentry, improving monitoring, logging, and error tracking across the full stack.
- Profile systems to stay ahead of scaling and performance bottlenecks, ensuring a fast, responsive mobile experience for users.
- Act as the primary technical leader for the team's architecture - designing robust, end-to-end solutions including performant APIs, mobile application architecture, and data models that are the foundation for TrueMotion's next generation.
- Mentor engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement through thoughtful code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Every quarter, identify, propose, and execute a significant upgrade or innovative change to the team's workflow, tooling, or architecture.
- Use hands-on leadership to drive outcomes across all levels, unblocking teammates by tackling hard technical challenges in distributed systems and mobile performance.
- Leverage generative AI tools to accelerate development workflows, improve code quality, and streamline debugging without compromising reliability or user experience.
- Maintain a bias for action by turning "only-now-possible" ideas from computer vision and AI research into stable, scalable shipped capabilities for members.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders while fostering alignment across engineering, product, design, and data science.
- Take owner-operator pride in production systems, meeting commitments and estimating effort accurately even in the face of messy edge cases.
- Build observability-driven insights that inform product decisions and surface issues before they impact members' recovery journeys.
- Contribute to a culture where technical excellence, learning, and mentorship directly improve health outcomes for people managing musculoskeletal pain.
Requirements
- At minimum, 4 + years of professional software engineering experience.
- At minimum, a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience building and shipping mobile applications.
- 3+ years of experience with backend technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, or GraphQL.
- 2+ years of experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience working in distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Hands-on experience with generative AI tools to accelerate development workflows, improve code quality, and streamline debugging.
Nice to have
- 3+ years of experience building and shipping mobile applications using React Native.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and tools such as Apache Kafka.
- Proficiency with observability tools such as Datadog and Sentry.
- Strong understanding of system design principles, mobile application architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with computer vision-driven user experiences on mobile platforms.
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers and leading architectural discussions across teams.
- Proficiency in both English and French is an asset.
