About the role
Hinge Health is building a new Gastrointestinal (GI) Care Program to address conditions that affect roughly one in four U.S. adults and drive $135 billion in annual medical spending. As a Staff Software Engineer for GI, you will own the end-to-end digital care experience for members, shaping product direction from prototype to scalable production system. You will lead rapid experiments to validate core assumptions, navigate complex technical and product challenges, and translate learnings into a reliable solution that improves member health at meaningful scale. This role involves close collaboration with Product, Design, and Marketing teams across San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore to deliver a differentiated digital care experience in a newly launched care area.

What you'll do
Define the GI product line from scratch and establish the technical and product strategy with Product, Design, and Marketing.
Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to align on the strategy, experimentation roadmap, and success metrics for the GI program.
Lead the technical roadmap development for the new GI product line spanning AI systems, UX interfaces, business logic middletier, hardware integration, and clinician support pathways.
Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts for the hardest parts of the new product line to de-risk key technical and user experience challenges.
Build the GI product as a minimum lovable product (MLP) that delivers a significant and measurable health improvement for members.
Mentor and pair with engineers on the pod, helping them grow in engineering best practices, code quality, and experimentation mindset.
Create and enforce engineering best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and client performance across the entire stack.
Personally develop the hardest, most challenging software elements in the product roadmap to ensure timely and high-quality execution.
Launch the new product and iterate based on real member feedback, adapting the solution to meet evolving user needs and business goals.
Drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey for GI end users, optimizing performance, reliability, and accessibility.
Continuously raise engineering standards on the pod in testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, and performance to support scaling impact.
Leverage AI-driven development techniques and tools, such as teams of AI agents, to improve productivity and accelerate delivery.
Act as a hands-on engineer who reads and writes code across the tech stack, including React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL, AI Agents, Computer Vision, and Medical Device Integration.
Serve as a talent magnet by influencing technical direction and inspiring other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication.
Requirements

Experiment-driven operator: You think in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.

Owner mindset: You think in terms of systems and business impact, not just tickets - you're comfortable taking a end-to-end perspective on problems and solutions.
