Sr. Software Engineer, GI
Job description
About the role
This role is for a builder who will define the technical direction of a brand new digital care product for the gastrointestinal (GI) market from day one. You will own the end-to-end implementation of a product line that does not yet exist within Hinge Health, shaping architecture decisions that impact millions of members. The position requires deep collaboration with cross-functional partners to translate clinical and business requirements into robust software solutions. You will validate your technical hypotheses through rapid experimentation and data-driven iterations. Ultimately, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, performant, and accessible experience that sets a new standard in digital GI care.

- Lead the design and implementation of core services using modern backend and frontend technologies, ensuring alignment with Hinge Health's AI-driven platform strategy.
- Translate complex product requirements into technical specifications, breaking down ambiguous problems into clear, actionable engineering tasks.
- Build and deploy high-impact features on a strict timeline, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability and code quality.
- Establish and enforce best practices for testing, monitoring, and CI/CD to create a robust and reliable software development lifecycle.
- Partner with data and analytics teams to implement event tracking and experiments, enabling evidence-based decisions for product optimization.
- Integrate third-party medical devices and APIs, ensuring secure and reliable communication between hardware, services, and user applications.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and collaborative sessions, elevating the entire team's engineering standards and capabilities.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents with root cause analysis, implementing preventative measures to improve system resilience.
- Explore and prototype emerging AI technologies to enhance user workflows and automate repetitive tasks within the care journey.
Requirements
- 0-1 Builder: You have a proven track record of building brand new products from scratch, demonstrating comfort with ambiguity and ownership.
- AI-Driven development: You have been using the latest AI software development techniques (e.g., teams of AI Agents) and continuously look for new AI techniques that can improve your productivity.
- You move fast, know how to balance innovation vs reuse, and deliver clear business results while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Hands-on engineer: You're reading and writing code across the tech stack (e.g., React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL, AI Agents, Computer Vision, Medical Device Integration, etc.), and you use that fluency to coach, review, and set technical direction.
- Experiment-driven operator: You think in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.
- Team mentor and collaborator: You enjoy leveling up a strong but more junior team through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment between engineering, product, and business objectives.
- You are disciplined in your craft, writing clean, testable code that is easy to understand, maintain, and extend over time.
