Staff Software Engineer, Home Pod
Job description
Staff Software Engineer, Home Pod at Hinge Health.
About the role
You will own the Home experience within the Hinge Health app, shaping how members first interact with the product and find the care they need. This role centers on the critical Home surface, where your technical decisions directly influence member engagement and care progression. You will partner tightly with product, design, data, and backend teams to define the technical strategy for this visible area of the app. The focus is on building a reliable, performant, and delightful interface that guides members efficiently into sessions and programs. You will use experimentation as a core tool to validate hypotheses and drive improvements to this primary member journey. As the senior-most engineer on the pod, you will raise the quality bar and set the technical direction for the entire team. Your work will have a direct impact on key business metrics such as session bookings and program retention.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and iterate on the core Home experience in the React Native app, focusing on performance, reliability, and member delight.
- Partner with product, design, data, and backend teams to map the current Home funnel and identify key drop-offs to prioritize experiments.
- Mentor and pair with engineers on the pod, helping them grow in mobile best practices, code quality, and experimentation mindset.
- Ship meaningful improvements that polish the existing Home surface and raise the standard of user experience.
- Improve server-driven UI architecture for Home, collaborating with backend and platform teams to refine APIs, configuration models, and guardrails.
- Deepen and participate in the experimentation and measurement framework for Home, including A/B tests, feature flags, and event instrumentation.
- Own the long-term technical roadmap for the Home pod's client architecture, balancing flexibility through server configuration with a responsive, native-quality experience.
- Drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey from Home through sessions and care plans, ensuring the surface reliably delivers business outcomes.
- Raise engineering standards on the pod in areas such as testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, and performance.
- Help scale the team's impact as the product and membership grow by creating clear systems and processes.
Requirements
- 4+ years of practical software engineering experience, including building and shipping user-facing applications in production.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
- 2+ years of hands-on React Native experience building mobile applications at scale.
- Mobile product craftsperson who cares deeply about core flows and how they feel in a member's hand, from loading behavior and animations to edge cases and error states.
- Experimentation-oriented, comfortable defining hypotheses, designing experiments, instrumenting funnels, and iterating based on data and qualitative feedback.
- Experience with server-driven UI, having designed or worked with server-configured experiences that are fast, reliable, and intuitive for both members and internal stakeholders.
- Team mentor and collaborator who enjoys leveling up engineers through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication.
- Owner mindset, thinking in terms of systems and business impact, comfortable taking a problem from idea through launch, measurement, and iteration.
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript, React Native, and modern mobile development tooling.
Nice to have
- Experience designing and implementing server-driven UI or configuration-driven presentation layers on mobile or other client platforms.
- Track record of running experiments (e.g., A/B tests or multivariate tests) on core product surfaces and using results to drive roadmap decisions.
- Familiarity with backend services such as Node/TypeScript, GraphQL, or similar architectures.
- Experience working on high-traffic, critical-path surfaces like home screens, discovery/navigation surfaces, or key funnels.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.
- Comfort collaborating with product, design, and data/analytics partners to define metrics, interpret results, and refine experiences.
- Experience in healthcare, consumer apps, or other regulated or data-sensitive environments.
