Staff Product Designer, Design Systems
Job description
Staff Product Designer, Design Systems at Hinge Health.
About the role
Hinge Health values design as a strategic partner in shaping product direction and member experience. As a Staff Product Designer on the Outcomes Pod, you will focus on helping people understand, log, and act on their progress over time. At the Staff level, you will lead large ambiguous problem spaces, shape product vision and strategy with partners, and align senior leaders around a clear design point of view. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and other cross-functional teammates to turn complex, data-rich, emotionally sensitive moments into simple and motivating experiences. We are looking for a designer with strong UI/UX craft, deep product thinking, and the ability to simplify complex clinical data into comprehensible member-facing insights. This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to shape how Hinge Health helps members see progress, stay engaged, and build confidence in their care journey. Hinge Health is building a new healthcare system, one built around the person, with a mission to revolutionize the treatment and prevention of pain and help move people beyond pain. This position provides a unique opportunity to drive high-impact outcomes during a transformative phase of growth. As we scale with 51% year-over-year revenue gains and a member base expanding by over 47% annually, your leadership will be instrumental in sustaining our momentum and shaping the future of digital care.
What you'll do
- Lead the definition of product vision and strategy for the Outcomes pod, owning the narrative and visual design of the Progress tab, pain logging interactions, and the holistic story members see about their improvement over time.
- Create structured feedback loops that help members share pain data consistently and derive meaningful insights from their inputs, turning raw entries into actionable understanding.
- Translate complex clinical and behavioral data into simple, motivating interfaces that help members understand trends, identify next best actions, and recognize the value of staying engaged with their care plan.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data to define testable hypotheses, run experiments, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative signals to iteratively improve member experience and outcomes.
- Establish and maintain design frameworks, patterns, and principles that raise the quality bar across the pod, ensuring coherence and scalability as the product surface grows in complexity.
- Act as an outcomes advocate by influencing adjacent teams when shared surfaces, shared metrics, or shared behaviors affect outcomes-related experiences, aligning incentives around member value.
- Champion accessibility, clarity, and product quality so that members with diverse needs, contexts, and motivation levels can successfully navigate and complete their care journey.
- Mentor designers within the pod and elevate the craft of product design by creating reusable assets, clear guidelines, and thoughtful critiques that raise the standard for future work.
- Synthesize cross-functional inputs and clinical constraints into design decisions that balance scientific rigor with empathetic, human-centered storytelling.
- Explore emerging workflows and tools, including thoughtful applications of AI, to accelerate design iterations while preserving consistency, clarity, and trust in member-facing outcomes.
- Define and own core components of the design system that support outcomes experiences, ensuring consistency in data presentation, interaction patterns, and accessibility across platforms.
- Collaborate with Data and Analytics to instrument and interpret design performance, using insights to refine interaction details and improve long-term engagement.
- Partner with researchers and clinicians to validate design assumptions, ensuring that member-facing representations of progress reflect real-world clinical understanding.
- Drive the end-to-end design of key journeys, from initial onboarding through long-term engagement, optimizing for comprehension, motivation, and sustained use.
- Act as the primary design voice for Outcomes in cross-functional discussions, articulating the rationale behind design decisions with clarity and evidence.
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of product design experience, including close partnership with product and engineering teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Interaction, Industrial, Product, or Service Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in interaction and visual design, with a track record of advancing craft quality across teams.
- Experience leading ambiguous problem spaces, setting vision, and defining design strategy across products or platforms.
- Strong fluency in data-informed design, including forming hypotheses, partnering on experiments, facilitating research, and translating insights into action.
- Excellent communication and influence skills, with the ability to align cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders around design direction.
- Demonstrated success mentoring other designers and elevating the quality and impact of team output.
- Strong prototyping and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to create cohesive experiences across flows, components, and product surfaces.
- Comfort working in regulated, data-sensitive environments where member trust and clinical accuracy are paramount.
- Deep empathy for diverse member backgrounds, motivations, and capabilities, reflected in inclusive design decisions.
- Commitment to evidence-based design practices that respect clinical guidelines and behavioral science.
- Willingness to work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve constraints and prioritize tradeoffs without losing sight of member outcomes.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-growth environment while maintaining clarity of design vision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting design rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
- 3+ years of product design experience, including close partnership with product and engineering teams.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interaction, Industrial, Product, or Service Design.
- Experience designing progress tracking, dashboards, data visualization, or other data-rich product experiences.
- Experience simplifying complex systems into intuitive consumer-facing experiences, especially in health, wellness, or habit-forming product spaces.
- Proven facilitation skills and comfort leading leadership conversations on large, ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience contributing to or shaping design systems that scale quality and consistency across products.
- Curiosity about emerging AI tools and workflows, and thoughtful judgment about where they can improve design quality or speed.
- Passion for helping people live healthier lives through thoughtful design and technology.
