Sr. Staff Engineer

About the role

You will define and execute the technical vision that powers member growth across Hinge Health's five pods. You will translate ambitious growth goals and emerging AI capabilities into robust, scalable architectures and high-impact roadmap bets. This role acts as a key technical deputy to the Director of Growth Engineering, owning multi-quarter initiatives that multiply impact across engineering pods. You will partner deeply with product, marketing, data science, and platform teams to turn experimental insights into production-grade systems. The position requires a hands-on architect who still delivers critical path code while elevating the technical bar for the entire neighborhood. You will establish the standards, patterns, and guardrails that enable fast, trusted, and repeatable growth experimentation. This role is for a technical leader who thrives on turning ambiguous growth opportunities into clear, executable technical strategy.

What you'll do

• Take ownership of the end-to-end Growth stack, defining architecture and modernization for data ingestion, activation, and conversion surfaces.
• Drive the technical strategy for the Growth neighborhood, setting long-term vision and multi-quarter roadmaps across all five pods.
• Build deep partnerships with Product, Marketing, Data Science, Platform Engineering, and Staff engineers to align on goals, dependencies, and success metrics.
• Author and lead high-impact RFCs that solve foundational problems such as experimentation convergence, BFF strategy, or event taxonomy.
• Publish and evangelize the architectural vision for Growth's data and activation stack, including API boundaries, event pipelines, and third-party integrations.
• Lead the MWeb Next.js migration and the SplitIO to Statsig convergence plan to standardize and simplify the experimentation landscape.
• Establish observability standards, SLOs, and data contracts to improve trust, reliability, and transparency in Growth data.
• Standardize platform patterns including BFFs, Temporal adoption, CI and testing templates, and deployment practices across pods.
• Improve cross-pod execution by clarifying ownership, resolving architectural disagreements, and accelerating dependency resolution.
• Lead two or more major cross-pod initiatives from concept to production, ensuring alignment, quality, and timely delivery.
• Turn AI and engineering automation opportunities into durable leverage that scales across the Growth neighborhood.
• Develop Senior Engineers and Staff engineers into strong pod-level technical leaders through mentorship and architecture guidance.

Requirements

• Bring a minimum of 3+ years of experience as a senior individual contributor shaping architecture and technical strategy.
• Hold at minimum a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrate significant experience owning architecture and technical strategy in growth, marketing, or consumer product environments.
• Show deep experience with modern web stacks including React and Next.js, experimentation platforms such as Split.io, Statsig, or Optimizely, and event-driven data systems.
• Maintain a strong track record building reliable data and activation platforms, including event taxonomies, data contracts, observability, and downstream data quality.
• Prove your ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives, resolve architectural disagreements, and drive adoption of shared patterns.
• Exhibit strong product partnership skills with experience shaping growth bets, experimentation strategies, and success metrics.
• Reflect Hinge Health's values in communication, ownership, experimentation, and inclusive collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Bring prior experience leading major modernization efforts such as framework migrations, experimentation platform consolidation, or large-scale data migrations.
• Demonstrate experience with backend-for-frontend patterns and workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal.
• Show experience standardizing AI-augmented engineering workflows at team or organization scale.
• Have prior experience operating at Senior Staff or Principal scope within a high-growth environment.
• Possess familiarity with healthcare, B2B2C, or other regulated environments and their constraints.
