Test Tooling Engineer
Job description
Test Tooling Engineer at Form Labs.
About the role
At Form Labs, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the way the world creates. Our innovative 3D printing technology empowers individuals and organizations to transform their ideas into reality, whether they are developing advanced products or critical medical devices. As a Test Tooling Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality and performance of our PreForm software. You will be part of a dynamic team focused on building and delivering exceptional tools that streamline the fabrication process. If you are passionate about shaping the future of manufacturing, we invite you to join us in this exciting endeavor.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the performance regression detection process by measuring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as startup time, upload speed, print generation, and crash rates during continuous integration (CI) cycles, ensuring timely alerts for any regressions.
- Re-architect the system test framework for the PreForm Local API, enabling comprehensive end-to-end testing scenarios that align with the API team's objectives.
- Develop and manage a testing pipeline that utilizes real customer files to run extensive batches through slicing and support generation, allowing for the detection of regressions in geometry that customers typically print.
- Oversee crash intelligence initiatives by managing Sentry triage processes, identifying trends, and attributing root causes; create crash-reproduction tools to facilitate prompt fixes by engineers.
- Take ownership of test infrastructure, including managing print regression baselines, addressing CI flakiness, optimizing test runtimes, and overseeing golden-file management as a product.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that quality and performance standards are met and maintained throughout the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing methodologies and practices, ensuring that they are scalable and effective in catching issues early in the development process.
- Document testing strategies and results to provide clear visibility into the quality of the PreForm software and its performance metrics.
Requirements
- Proficiency in C++ programming, with the ability to write integration and system tests that interact with PreForm's internal components.
- Experience with Python for developing testing tools and harnesses, including corpus pipelines and API-driven test drivers.
- Strong background in continuous integration and automation, particularly with tools like Jenkins, including test parallelization and flake management.
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Sentry and Amplitude, and the ability to analyze data to assess the health of software releases.
- Experience in desktop application testing, particularly GUI automation on Windows or macOS, using frameworks like Squish or Qt Test.
- Mid-to-senior level experience as an individual contributor, with the ability to independently define and implement testing strategies while remaining hands-on.
