What you'll do
- Design user interfaces that guide teams from initial import of 3D models through to final export with clarity at every step.
- Translate research insights from user studies into concrete interface decisions that serve both novice users and expert makers.
- Coordinate with engineers to refine interactions and guide implementation through iterative prototypes to live releases.
- Audit cross-platform experiences to identify friction and propose improvements that strengthen consistency and reliability.
- Explore concepts with product partners and validate direction through testing and data to confirm real-world value.
- Maintain design system components that scale across teams and evolve alongside the product portfolio.
- Prototype high-fidelity interactions for desktop and web, balancing polish with development constraints and timelines.
- Partner with researchers to gather insights and shape storylines that influence roadmap priorities and feature ownership.
- Define clear interaction patterns for complex workflows in CAD, slicing, and process monitoring across embedded interfaces.
- Support the creation of physical products by ensuring digital tools reflect real-world manufacturing constraints and capabilities.
- Drive alignment between user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility through structured discovery and synthesis.

Requirements
You have handled complex, technical products spanning desktop, web, mobile, or embedded interfaces with confidence and rigor. You understand human-computer interaction principles deeply and communicate design rationale clearly to diverse collaborators. Your portfolio demonstrates early-stage ideation, user research, and detailed pixel-perfect designs that show your range and attention to detail. You are fluent with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, using them to express ideas and iterate quickly in collaborative reviews. You thrive in collaborative settings, giving and receiving candid feedback while championing the best ideas regardless of their origin. You bring a technical mindset and work closely with product and engineering teams to align constraints and possibilities effectively. You have designed software for physical products before, or your background in industrial design informs digital decisions in meaningful ways. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information while maintaining a user-centered perspective. You communicate in English at a professional level, ensuring clarity in documentation, presentations, and cross-team coordination. You are based in or willing to relocate to the Somerville, Massachusetts area to support in-person collaboration and workshop participation.
Nice to have
An interest in 3D printing, CAD, embedded software, or related technologies that shapes the questions you ask and the solutions you pursue.
