About the role
Form Labs is hiring an Außendiensttechniker to join their growing team based in Frankfurt, Germany. This role involves providing essential on-site technical support for Form Labs 3D printing systems at customer locations across the Frankfurt region and surrounding areas. The technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing advanced additive manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and consistent uptime for every client. What you'll do
Travel to customer sites throughout the Frankfurt region and surrounding areas to perform equipment installations and initial setup procedures for Form Labs printers.
Conduct routine maintenance and preventive service checks on Form Labs 3D printers and related hardware components to minimize unplanned downtime for clients.
Diagnose and resolve technical issues with stereolithography and fused deposition modeling systems directly at the customer site in a timely manner.
Replace faulty parts and perform detailed repairs on printer mechanisms, optical components, and motion control systems using approved service procedures.
Provide comprehensive hands-on training to end users on proper operation, daily cleaning routines, and basic troubleshooting techniques for the equipment.
Document all service activities, replacement parts used, and customer interactions in the company tracking system thoroughly after each completed visit.
Collaborate closely with the internal engineering and technical support teams to escalate complex problems and share valuable field feedback regularly.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company protocols during every on-site service visit, repair, or installation task.
Manage and maintain a well-organized inventory of spare parts and essential service tools required for efficient field assignments and repairs.
Build and sustain long-term professional relationships with customers to support retention, satisfaction, and the overall reputation of the service team.
Coordinate scheduling and route planning with the service management team to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time between customer appointments.
Perform post-repair verification tests and quality checks to confirm that all equipment is functioning correctly before concluding each service call.
Requirements
Proven experience as a field service technician or equivalent role supporting technical equipment in a hands-on, customer-facing capacity and environment.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electronics, and basic electrical wiring principles relevant to industrial and professional equipment maintenance work.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering schematics, and service documentation for complex machinery and precision instruments accurately.
Willingness to travel frequently within the Frankfurt region and occasionally to nearby cities for scheduled and emergency service calls as needed.
Excellent written and spoken German language skills, with English proficiency considered a valuable advantage for international customer interactions.
Hands-on problem-solving mindset with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and efficiently, even under demanding time pressure and tight deadlines.
Valid driver's license and comfort with driving to multiple customer locations in a single day across the assigned service territory.
High school diploma or vocational qualification in a technical discipline such as mechatronics, electronics, or mechanical engineering from a recognized institution.

Previous experience working with 3D printing technology or additive manufacturing equipment in a service or applications support environment is highly valued.
Familiarity with networking basics and IT systems, including connectivity troubleshooting for connected devices and networked equipment setups.
Certification or additional formal training in industrial maintenance, automation technology, or a related technical field demonstrates strong commitment.
Experience providing training or onboarding sessions to new users of technical equipment or software platforms in a professional setting.
Skills & tools
Proficiency with hand tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and standard diagnostic equipment for electronics and mechanical systems used in field service.
Experience with service management software or customer relationship management platforms for accurately tracking work orders and service histories.
Knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic IT troubleshooting for connected devices, peripherals, and network-attached equipment in the field.
Familiarity with the Form Labs software ecosystem including PreForm, Form Labs Dashboard, and related print management and monitoring tools.
Understanding of 3D printing technologies such as stereolithography, selective laser sintering, and material jetting principles and their practical applications.
Ability to use precision measurement instruments and calibration tools for accurately aligning and tuning printer components to factory specifications.
