What you'll do
- Manage the daily operations of regional outbound logistics, working closely with third-party logistics providers to ensure adherence to service level agreements related to order processing, packaging, and shipping timelines.
- Analyze fulfillment and shipping budgets regularly, identifying opportunities for cost savings through techniques such as zone skipping, carrier route optimization, and freight consolidation.
- Collaborate with the Data/Systems team to develop and maintain dashboards that track key performance indicators such as on-time delivery rates, in-full delivery percentages, shipping margin losses, and other critical metrics.
- Prepare the regional logistics infrastructure for new product launches and seasonal demand spikes by coordinating capacity planning, resource allocation, and process adjustments.
- Regularly review and update outbound routing guides to optimize carrier selection, balancing cost efficiency with delivery speed and reliability to meet customer expectations.
- Incorporate delivery exception data into continuous improvement initiatives, analyzing failed deliveries and identifying root causes to implement corrective actions that reduce reshipment costs and improve delivery success rates.
- Support and mentor junior logistics coordinators by sharing analytical techniques, helping them utilize logistics data to advocate for operational improvements, and assisting in vendor negotiations.
- Develop and implement reverse logistics strategies, including product returns and exchanges, ensuring compliance with company policies and customer satisfaction goals.
- Manage cross-border shipping processes, focusing on compliance with international regulations, customs documentation, and transit time optimization to ensure smooth international deliveries.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as Customer Service, Warehouse Operations, and Finance to align logistics strategies with overall business objectives and customer satisfaction targets.
- Track and report on logistics performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making and process improvements.
- Lead initiatives to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the overall customer experience by leveraging data-driven insights and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with vendors and carriers to negotiate rates, service levels, and contractual terms, ensuring the company receives optimal service at competitive prices.
- Monitor compliance with ITAR regulations and other relevant legal requirements, ensuring logistics operations adhere to all applicable laws and standards.
- Maintain documentation related to logistics processes, vendor agreements, and compliance standards to support audits and continuous improvement efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Several years of experience in e-commerce fulfillment, outbound logistics, or third-party logistics management, with a proven track record of managing logistics operations effectively.
- Strong financial skills, including experience managing logistics budgets, conducting freight audits, and performing cost-benefit analyses to identify savings opportunities.
- Excellent analytical abilities, with proficiency in interpreting ERP/WMS data and translating insights into actionable strategies for operational improvement.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of engaging effectively with warehouse teams, logistics vendors, finance professionals, and internal leadership.
- Proven problem-solving skills, especially in resolving complex operational challenges while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and company profitability.
- Experience with logistics optimization techniques, including route planning, carrier negotiations, and performance metrics tracking.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and compliance standards such as ITAR.
- Familiarity with supply chain management software, ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
Nice to have
- Advanced skills in Excel, including Power Query or VBA, for data manipulation and reporting.
- Experience working with Shopify's fulfillment processes and its integration with third-party logistics networks.
- Knowledge of total landed cost modeling, including understanding the implications of international VAT, taxes, and tariffs on regional logistics.
- Familiarity with global freight forwarding, customs clearance, and cross-border shipping regulations.
- Experience with international shipping carriers and negotiations to optimize transit times and costs.
- Understanding of international trade compliance and export/import regulations.

Practical notes
- This is an on-site role based in Somerville, MA. The position requires working closely with logistics providers, internal teams, and external vendors to ensure seamless outbound operations.

- The annual salary range for this position is $75,000 to $115,000, depending on experience and skills.
- Full-time employees are eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs), aligning your success with the company's growth.
- The role may involve occasional travel to vendor sites or logistics hubs as needed to support operational initiatives.
