What you'll do
- Oversee the legal department, managing a team of legal professionals and ensuring effective collaboration across various functions within the organization.
- Develop and implement legal strategies that align with Clearspace's business objectives, focusing on risk management and compliance.
- Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of issues, including intellectual property, data privacy, contract negotiations, and regulatory compliance.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and agreements to ensure they meet the company's standards and protect its interests.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and operations, to identify legal risks and provide proactive solutions.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company's operations and advise management on necessary adjustments.
- Lead the resolution of disputes and manage litigation matters, working closely with external counsel when necessary.
- Foster a culture of compliance within the organization by developing training programs and resources for employees on legal and ethical standards.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and industry associations to represent the company's interests and stay informed on industry trends.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes and provide insights on emerging legal issues.
- Prepare and present legal updates and reports to the executive team and board of directors, ensuring they are informed of significant legal matters.
- Mentor and develop junior legal staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional growth and capabilities.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in a legal role, with a strong focus on technology, intellectual property, and corporate law.
- Proven track record of managing legal teams and working collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify potential legal issues and develop effective strategies.
- Experience with data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with corporate governance and compliance frameworks, as well as experience in managing litigation and dispute resolution.
- Ability to work independently and make sound legal judgments under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience in the tech industry or with digital services companies is a plus.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a legal department or as in-house counsel.
- Multilingual capabilities, particularly in languages relevant to Clearspace's global operations.
- Familiarity with international legal frameworks and cross-border transactions.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in legal research tools and software, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Familiarity with contract management systems and compliance tracking tools.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, for document preparation and data analysis.
- Knowledge of project management tools to oversee legal projects effectively.
