About the role
Chartis is seeking a strategic and highly collaborative internal communications leader to define and strengthen how the firm communicates across a complex, multi-brand enterprise. The Associate Vice President, Internal Communication will own the end-to-end development, execution, and governance of the internal communications function. This role translates firm strategy into clear, consistent, and compelling messages that connect colleagues and reduce organizational noise. The hire will partner closely with executive leadership, practice leaders, and cross-functional teams to ensure communications are disciplined, sequenced, and aligned with Chartis priorities and culture. They will design enterprise communication strategies while also creating practical tools that make communication easier and more effective for all colleagues. The role requires comfort with both strategic design and hands-on execution, including writing leader messages, building cascade plans, and establishing practical systems. Ultimately, this position will own the mechanisms that ensure colleagues understand what matters most and feel connected to the firm's transformation journey.

What you'll do
Develop and evolve Chartis' internal communications strategy, operating model, and governance in partnership with the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer and firm leadership.
Build and maintain a comprehensive enterprise communications calendar that aligns key firm moments, strategic priorities, change initiatives, and recurring touchpoints across the organization.
Create and steward clear messaging frameworks, narratives, and internal voice guidance to ensure consistency across leaders, teams, and communication channels.
Create and maintain tools that enable effective leader cascade, including talking points, FAQs, message templates, and channel guidance for diverse audiences.
Define and instill clear roles, responsibilities, and decision rights for internal communications across the firm, balancing centralized guidance with business unit ownership.
Translate complex firm, functional, and change-related topics into simple, relevant communication that is clear on the "so what," the "why," and the specific action required for stakeholders.
Partner with Talent, Transformation, IT, and business leaders to support change readiness and change initiative communications throughout the entire transformation lifecycle.
Strengthen leader effectiveness as communicators by providing coaching, templates, and practical guidance on timing, sequencing, and audience-specific needs.
Establish a structured mechanism for listening and feedback so internal communications is continuously informed by colleague input, leader perspectives, and what resonates across the firm.
Measure and report on communication effectiveness using indicators such as reach, clarity, engagement, channel performance, and signals of connection and discipline across the organization.
Identify opportunities to simplify, consolidate, or retire redundant channels, messages, and processes that contribute to noise, confusion, or misalignment in internal communication.
Partner with business and functional leaders to ensure communications are timely, appropriately scoped, and delivered through the right channel by the most credible messenger.
Collaborate with Knowledge Management and IT teams to ensure that internal communication strategies integrate with information architecture, tools, and digital platforms.
Champion a culture of clarity and transparency by modeling best practices in communication and enabling peers and leaders to adopt similar standards.
Drive continuous improvement in the internal communications function by testing new approaches, gathering feedback, and adapting to evolving organizational needs.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
Bring 12-15+ years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications, employee communications, change communications, or a related discipline.
Prefer experience within professional services, healthcare, consulting, or complex matrixed organizations where communication demands are high.
Demonstrated success in building or evolving an internal communications function, operating model, or enterprise communication program from the ground up or in a scaled environment.
Show strong strategic judgment with the ability to connect communications initiatives directly to business priorities, organizational change, and cultural outcomes.
Exhibit excellent writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to craft executive messaging, leader communications, toolkits, and highly clear messages for varied audiences.
Display strong facilitation and advisory skills, with the ability to coach leaders and influence across all levels of a large, complex organization.
Demonstrate comfort working in a matrixed environment where priorities shift and multiple stakeholders own pieces of the communication challenge.
Possess exceptional attention to detail and judgment, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
Show commitment to building inclusive communication practices that amplify diverse voices and perspectives across the Chartis network.
Nice to have
Experience working with enterprise listening mechanisms such as engagement surveys, pulse checks, or feedback platforms to inform communication strategy.
Background in designing measurement frameworks for communication effectiveness and reporting insights to leadership.
Exposure to change management methodologies and tools that support large-scale transformations in healthcare or professional services.
Familiarity with content management systems, internal collaboration platforms, or communication technology stacks that support message delivery.
Practical notes
This role operates as a remote position, allowing flexibility in work location.
The position is full-time and requires engagement during standard business hours, with occasional adjustments to support global initiatives or time-sensitive communications.
Travel is not expected as part of this role, given the fully remote nature of the position.
