What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Design and develop fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and smoke control systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate fire protection features into building designs.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for fire protection systems, including calculations, specifications, and design drawings.
- Review and analyze fire protection plans and specifications submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory requirements.
- Provide expert guidance and support during the construction phase, addressing any fire protection-related issues that may arise.
- Conduct inspections and testing of fire protection systems to verify their functionality and compliance with applicable standards.
- Stay updated on the latest fire safety regulations, technologies, and best practices to ensure that Bamboohr remains at the forefront of the industry.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to educate clients and staff on fire safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of fire safety management plans for various projects.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and fire authorities to ensure that all fire protection measures meet local and national codes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of fire protection practices within the organization, sharing insights and recommendations for enhanced safety measures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering or a related discipline.
- Proficient knowledge of fire codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA, ULC, and local building codes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with fire protection design software and tools, such as AutoCAD or Revit, is highly desirable.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration.
- Experience in conducting fire investigations and understanding of fire dynamics.
- Knowledge of building information modeling (BIM) and its application in fire protection design.
- Previous experience in project management or leading fire protection projects.
- Certification from recognized fire protection organizations, such as the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
