Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead and manage water resources engineering projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they meet client expectations and regulatory standards.
- Conduct hydrological and hydraulic modeling to assess water flow and quality, utilizing advanced software tools and methodologies.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists and other engineers to develop integrated water management strategies that promote sustainability and resilience.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Oversee the design and implementation of stormwater management systems, flood control measures, and water treatment facilities.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional development and enhancing team capabilities.
- Engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to address concerns and ensure project alignment with local needs and regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in water resources engineering to continuously improve project outcomes and service delivery.
- Participate in business development activities, including networking, proposal writing, and presentations to secure new projects.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and promote a culture of safety within the team and across projects.
- Manage project budgets and timelines effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and projects are delivered on schedule.

Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in water resources engineering, with a proven track record of successful project management.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Nova Scotia.
- Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality modeling techniques and software.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and standards governing water resources in Canada.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently when required.
- Proficiency in using engineering software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or similar tools for modeling and analysis.
- A commitment to professional development and staying updated on industry advancements and best practices.
Nice to have
- Experience with GIS software and its application in water resources engineering.
- Knowledge of climate change impacts on water resources and experience in developing adaptive management strategies.
- Previous experience in public engagement and stakeholder consultation processes.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, such as Agile or PMP certification.
- Experience in conducting fieldwork and site assessments related to water resources projects.
