What you'll do

Lead and manage water resources engineering projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they meet client expectations and regulatory standards.
Conduct hydrological and hydraulic modeling to assess water flow and quality, utilizing advanced software tools and methodologies.
Collaborate with environmental scientists and other engineers to develop integrated water management strategies that promote sustainability and resilience.
Prepare detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
Oversee the design and implementation of stormwater management systems, flood control measures, and water treatment facilities.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional development and enhancing team capabilities.
Engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to address concerns and ensure project alignment with local needs and regulations.
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in water resources engineering to continuously improve project outcomes and service delivery.
Participate in business development activities, including networking, proposal writing, and presentations to secure new projects.
Ensure adherence to safety standards and promote a culture of safety within the team and across projects.
Manage project budgets and timelines effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and projects are delivered on schedule.
Contribute to the development of innovative solutions for complex water resource challenges, leveraging your expertise and creativity.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in water resources engineering, with a proven track record of successful project management.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Nova Scotia.
Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality modeling techniques and software.
Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and standards governing water resources in Canada.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently when required.
Proficiency in using engineering software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or similar tools for modeling and analysis.
A commitment to professional development and staying updated on industry advancements and best practices.

Nice to have

Experience with GIS software and its application in water resources engineering.
Knowledge of climate change impacts on water resources and experience in developing adaptive management strategies.
Previous experience in public engagement and stakeholder consultation processes.
Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, such as Agile or PMP certification.
Experience in conducting fieldwork and site assessments related to water resources projects.

Skills & tools

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in water resources engineering, including proficiency in hydrological modeling, water quality assessment, and stormwater management design. Familiarity with software tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and various hydrological modeling programs is essential.
