What you'll do

• Design and analyze mechanical systems for a variety of building types, including commercial, residential, and institutional projects.
• Develop detailed mechanical drawings and specifications using industry-standard software, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into overall building designs.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system performance and enhance energy efficiency in building designs.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring that they function as intended and meet project specifications.
• Perform site inspections and assessments to troubleshoot issues and provide solutions during the construction phase.
• Prepare and manage project documentation, including reports, proposals, and technical specifications, to ensure clear communication with stakeholders.
• Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations to incorporate best practices into your work.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
• Participate in client meetings to discuss project progress, address concerns, and present design solutions.
• Collaborate with the project management team to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in building systems design.
• Proficiency in using AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant design software for creating mechanical drawings and models.
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical systems in construction.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Experience with energy modeling software is an asset.
• Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration is preferred.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with sustainable design practices and green building certifications (LEED, BREEAM, etc.).
• Experience with building automation systems and smart building technologies.
• Previous involvement in project management or leading engineering teams.
• Knowledge of advanced modeling techniques, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
• Additional certifications in HVAC design or energy management are a plus.
