Calsolarinc is seeking a dedicated Estimator for our Commercial and Industrial division, located in the vibrant city of San Diego, California. This full-time position is pivotal in ensuring that our solar projects are accurately estimated and competitively priced. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction estimating, particularly within the renewable energy sector, and will play a crucial role in our mission to provide sustainable energy solutions. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to deliver precise cost assessments that align with project goals and budgets.

What you'll do
- Conduct thorough analysis of project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial and industrial solar installations.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements for precise estimating.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of costs for materials, labor, and equipment to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals that clearly outline project scope, timelines, and pricing structures for clients.
- Assess risks associated with projects and incorporate contingency measures into estimates to safeguard against unforeseen circumstances.
- Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project specifications.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of project environments and requirements.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures throughout the construction phase to ensure adherence to estimated costs and identify any variances.
- Provide ongoing support to project teams during the construction phase, offering insights and adjustments to estimates as necessary.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in solar technology to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist in the development of strategic pricing models and proposals to improve the company's competitive edge in the solar market.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate favorable pricing and terms for project materials and services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within the renewable energy or solar industry.
- Proficient in estimating software and tools, with a strong understanding of cost estimation methodologies.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in calculations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, specifications, and relevant building codes.
- Understanding of solar energy systems and their components is highly desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
Nice to have
- Experience with project management software and tools.
- Knowledge of local and state regulations regarding solar installations.
- Certification from a recognized estimating or construction management organization.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a fast-growing solar company.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
Skills & tools
- Strong proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills for data manipulation and financial modeling.
- Familiarity with project management tools like Procore or Microsoft Project.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.

- This position is based in San Diego, California, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
