What you'll do

• Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures that comply with local regulations and industry standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Collaborate with various departments to assess risks and implement effective control measures to mitigate identified hazards.
• Provide training and support to employees on health, safety, and environmental practices to foster a culture of safety awareness.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions, ensuring all documentation is up to date and accessible.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to health, safety, and environmental management, providing insights for continuous improvement.
• Stay informed about changes in legislation and best practices in health, safety, and environmental management, ensuring the organization remains compliant.
• Engage with external regulatory bodies and stakeholders to represent the company's interests in health, safety, and environmental matters.
• Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
• Participate in safety committees and meetings to discuss safety performance and promote a proactive approach to health and safety issues.
• Foster a collaborative environment where employees feel empowered to report unsafe conditions and suggest improvements to safety practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in a similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
• Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and safety audits.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
• Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is highly desirable.

Nice to have

• Experience in the mining or construction industry is a plus.
• Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
• Knowledge of emergency response planning and management.
• Additional certifications in specialized safety areas (e.g., first aid, fire safety) would be advantageous.
