About the role
The Director of Engineering will own the end-to-end technical strategy and execution for the Institutional investor solutions and research product suite within Addepar. This role involves taking full ownership of the technology delivery lifecycle, from initial discovery through to production deployment and optimization for complex institutional workflows. You will be responsible for translating high-level business objectives into coherent engineering roadmaps that drive measurable outcomes for sophisticated investors. The position requires deep technical leadership to navigate large-scale, data-intensive systems while balancing innovation with operational stability. You will champion best practices in engineering quality, reliability, and security across the entire product lifecycle. Success in this role will be defined by your ability to deliver impactful product capabilities that empower investment professionals globally. You will serve as the primary technical voice for the Institutional segment in cross-functional executive discussions.

What you'll do
Define and own the technical vision and product strategy for the Institutional investor solutions and research suite, ensuring alignment with Addepar's global data and AI platform objectives.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering team including software engineers, platform architects, and engineering managers to deliver ambitious product goals.
Establish and maintain rigorous engineering standards, operational metrics, and delivery frameworks that ensure predictable, high-quality outcomes across the Institutional segment.
Partner closely with Product Management, Design, and go-to-market teams to translate complex business requirements into clear product specifications and technical implementation plans.
Architect and evolve scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native systems that meet the stringent demands of institutional finance and regulatory compliance.
Drive the execution of complex product roadmaps by coordinating cross-functional engineering efforts and managing dependencies across the broader engineering organization.
Implement robust software development practices, including testing, deployment automation, and observability, to accelerate delivery while maintaining system integrity.
Champion data-driven decision making by leveraging insights from production systems to optimize performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
Collaborate with security, legal, and compliance stakeholders to ensure all solutions adhere to institutional governance, risk, and regulatory standards.
Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence within the engineering teams under your leadership.
Act as the primary technical liaison between the Institutional segment and other engineering organizations to ensure cohesive platform evolution.
Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural patterns to future-proof the platform and maintain competitive differentiation in the market.
Own the end-to-end delivery of key product initiatives, from initial discovery and requirements definition through successful production deployment and post-launch optimization.
Guide technical design reviews and code quality standards to ensure solutions are maintainable, performant, and aligned with long-term platform strategy.
Requirements
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring current or future visa sponsorship, including but not limited to H-1B, F-1/OPT, or similar visa classifications, and must be authorized to begin work on the first day of employment.
Must reside in or be willing to relocate to New York, NY, as this role requires presence in the primary office location.
Must possess the legal right to accept employment in the United States under the conditions specified without sponsorship.
Must demonstrate the ability to lead and grow a multi-disciplinary engineering organization in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.
Must bring strong technical depth in designing, building, and operating scalable cloud-native systems at enterprise scale.
Must have a proven track record of successfully managing and scaling engineering teams, including mentoring engineers and delivering complex product roadmaps.
Must exhibit strong judgment in making technical decisions that balance innovation, risk, security, and delivery timelines.
Must communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives, product managers, and external partners.
Nice to have
Prior experience in the financial services, investment management, or data-intensive enterprise sectors is preferred.
Experience with regulated environments and compliance frameworks relevant to institutional finance is highly valued.
Background in building and operating data platforms, analytics ecosystems, or AI-driven products is strongly encouraged.
