About the role
In this position, you will be a vital part of Zocdoc's Spend Management team, responsible for developing and enhancing the platform that enables healthcare providers to manage their budgets through self-service controls. You will lead the technical development of features that improve spend tracking, budget enforcement, and financial accuracy. Your work will directly influence the reliability and integrity of Zocdoc's financial systems, ensuring that healthcare providers and patients experience a trustworthy marketplace. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that meet business needs and improve user experience.

What you'll do
- Take ownership of the technical vision and architecture for the Spend Management platform, ensuring it is scalable, reliable, and secure.
- Design and develop core features such as flexible budget controls, spend limits, and the Budget Settings experience that empower healthcare providers to manage their financials effectively.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and data analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Implement robust safeguards, observability, and monitoring to maintain high system reliability and prevent financial discrepancies.
- Lead efforts to improve the accuracy and consistency of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
- Mentor and review code contributions from other engineers, fostering best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
- Incorporate generative AI tools into the platform to enhance functionalities such as spend recommendations, fraud detection, and AI-driven insights, leveraging the latest advancements in AI technology.
- Participate in planning sessions, technical discussions, and sprint reviews to continuously refine the platform's capabilities and performance.
- Advocate for security, data privacy, and compliance standards in all aspects of system design and implementation.
- Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches that can improve the platform's efficiency and user experience.
- Contribute to documentation, technical specifications, and knowledge sharing within the team to promote a culture of continuous learning.
- Work proactively to identify potential system bottlenecks or vulnerabilities and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
- Support the onboarding of new team members and foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with .NET and AWS cloud services, demonstrating a strong understanding of cloud-based architectures.
- Proven experience in designing, developing, and scaling back-end systems, especially in financial or spend management contexts.
- Experience integrating generative AI tools into software workflows to enhance product features and operational efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of building reliable, accurate financial transaction systems with safeguards and observability.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, entrepreneurial approach to tackling challenges.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to respectful, inclusive, and ethical work practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Familiarity with security standards, compliance, and best practices in financial systems is a plus.
