The salary for this remote role ranges from $235,000 to $300,000 USD, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
What you'll do
- Develop and refine systems for orchestration, monitoring, and ensuring data reliability.
- Set standards for modeling, semantic layers, and governance to promote collaboration across teams.
- Optimize the performance of the data warehouse while effectively managing compute expenses.
- Implement access controls and enhance compliance protocols.
- Work alongside Engineering teams to improve the quality of upstream data and establish clear contracts.
- Spearhead cross-functional initiatives aimed at modernizing and future-proofing Zocdoc's data infrastructure.
- Provide mentorship to engineers and guide architectural decision-making processes.
- Analyze and enhance the overall performance of data pipelines, ensuring reliability and observability.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Drive initiatives that focus on warehouse cost optimization and data access security.
- Engage in strategic discussions to influence the direction of the data platform.
- Utilize dbt, Airflow, and Dagster to build resilient and scalable data transformation workflows.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of data pipeline architecture to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Partner with Product teams to define data requirements and deliver analytics that drive business outcomes.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Backend Software Engineering.
- Proven experience in a Staff-level position with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and familiarity with Python or similar programming languages.
- Extensive background with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or comparable technologies.
- Practical experience with dbt and orchestration tools like Airflow or Dagster.
- A solid history of improving pipeline reliability and overall system performance.
- Experience in managing costs associated with data warehouses effectively.
- Knowledge of secure data access patterns, particularly in regulated environments.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and foster technical growth within a team environment.
- Experience working with complex healthcare data sets and regulatory constraints is mandatory.
- Capability to lead large-scale projects from initial conception through successful production deployment.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to support critical data platform incidents.
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
