Zocdoc is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer specializing in AI Enablement to enhance the company's mission of empowering patients. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing foundational systems, tools, and guidelines that facilitate efficient operations across the engineering organization. Your work will focus on improving delivery speed while ensuring reliability and a positive developer experience. This position will require you to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, creating platforms that allow all team members to utilize AI tools effectively and securely.

What you'll do

• Design and implement platform services and solutions that prioritize security, scalability, and user-friendliness, including CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
• Contribute to the overall technical direction of Zocdoc's internal developer platform, focusing on creating shared workflows for both technical and non-technical users.
• Build and maintain platforms and guidelines that enable non-technical teams to safely utilize AI tools without compromising security or efficiency.
• Define and refine the software development lifecycle for non-traditional builders, including access controls, credential management, testing methodologies, and support workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify developer pain points and the needs of non-technical stakeholders, validating platform initiatives and driving adoption.
• Manage and execute high-impact platform investments from initial problem identification through implementation and rollout.
• Enhance measurable outcomes such as build times, deployment safety, AI tool adoption rates, and operational efficiency.
• Promote a platform-as-product approach, treating both internal engineers and non-technical users as primary stakeholders and continuously improving their experience based on feedback.
• Advance platform capabilities in AI-assisted development, shaping how all Zocdoc personnel use AI tools in their workflows while ensuring safety and quality.
• Work with generative AI technologies to accelerate platform development and set best practices for the organization.
• Mentor engineers and technologists throughout the company, raising standards for technical design and code quality.
• Ensure that platform standards meet security, compliance, and reliability requirements without hindering progress.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in developing or enhancing internal developer platforms, productivity tools, or CI/CD systems utilized by various teams.
• Proven experience in designing and managing distributed systems in AWS or comparable cloud environments.
• Strong judgment regarding platform abstractions and APIs, with an understanding of when to standardize and when to allow flexibility.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems into manageable tasks and drive them toward measurable results.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences, translating engineering concepts into relatable terms.
• Understanding that user adoption is a critical engineering challenge, requiring empathy and effective communication, especially for non-technical teams.
• Experience or informed opinions on building guardrails, access controls, and safe onboarding processes for non-engineers using AI tools.
• A commitment to enabling both engineers and non-technical users to work confidently and safely.
• A strong focus on learning, curiosity, and operational excellence, demonstrating these qualities to the team.
• Comfort in dynamic, rapidly changing environments where priorities may shift and alignment requires active effort.
• Experience integrating generative AI tools into daily workflows to streamline tasks and enhance productivity.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.

• Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and their practical applications in a business setting.
• Experience working with diverse teams across different functions, such as Sales, Finance, and Operations.
• Background in mentoring or coaching less experienced engineers or team members in technical practices.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript.
• Knowledge of security best practices in software development and AI tool usage.
• Understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps.
