About the role

Zocdoc is on the lookout for a Director of Product Design to spearhead the design direction for a vital segment of our platform. This role will concentrate on optimizing the way healthcare providers operate their practices while simultaneously enhancing patient access to essential care services. You will lead a team of talented designers in crafting product and design strategies that guarantee a and scalable user experience across our offerings.

What you'll do

• Lead a team of product designers, providing mentorship and guidance to foster their professional development and maximize their effectiveness.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to define and execute product and design strategies specifically for the Practice Solutions area.
• Ensure alignment and facilitate decision-making among diverse teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, cohesive user experiences.
• Create and enhance systems, frameworks, and design patterns that enable scalable solutions throughout the platform.
• Promote design excellence through constructive feedback, mentorship, and the establishment of clear design standards, while ensuring timely delivery of impactful design work.
• Cultivate strong relationships across functions and influence senior stakeholders to align on shared objectives.
• Lead the charge in integrating AI-driven workflows, guiding teams in the adoption of emerging tools to improve product design and development processes.
• Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and validate design concepts.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, ensuring that Zocdoc remains at the forefront of product design innovation.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles and methodologies throughout the organization.
• Collaborate with marketing and business teams to ensure that design solutions align with overall business objectives and user needs.
• Present design concepts and strategies to executive leadership, articulating the rationale behind design decisions and their anticipated impact.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in product design, with a strong background in leading and nurturing high-performing design teams through a collaborative and empowering leadership approach.
• Demonstrated success in defining product and design strategies, acting as a strategic partner to Product and Engineering leaders, and achieving measurable results in complex product environments.
• Strong systems thinking abilities, with experience in developing scalable platforms, workflows, or B2B tools, and facilitating alignment across multiple teams.
• A commitment to high design quality and execution, with a proven ability to elevate design standards across teams while balancing speed and sustainability.
• A proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership, including experience in leading zero-to-one product initiatives and integrating emerging technologies like generative AI into design workflows.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and strategies clearly to various audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience in the healthcare industry or familiarity with healthcare-related products and services.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices in product design.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and experience working in fast-paced environments.
• A portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, particularly those that demonstrate innovative problem-solving and user-centered design.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in design software such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Familiarity with product management and engineering collaboration tools, such as JIRA or Trello.
• Understanding of AI and machine learning concepts as they pertain to product design and user experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate effective collaboration across teams and departments.

• This role offers a flexible, hybrid work environment, allowing for a balance between remote and in-office work.
• The competitive salary range for this position is between $250,000 and $290,000 USD, contingent upon experience and qualifications.
