About the role
Zeta Global is on the lookout for a Director of Data Privacy Compliance to spearhead the establishment and implementation of a robust privacy compliance framework. This pivotal role requires collaboration with various departments to ensure compliance with global privacy regulations, particularly within the marketing technology sector. The individual in this position will report directly to the VP of Privacy Compliance & Legal Operations, serving as a vital resource for navigating the intricate legal landscape surrounding data privacy.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of Zeta's global privacy compliance strategies across all business units and newly integrated platforms.
- Serve as the primary authority on federal and state privacy regulations, including but not limited to TCPA, CAN-SPAM, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and other international privacy frameworks.
- Manage privacy assessments, data mapping, and the documentation of processing activities related to Zeta's product offerings.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of privacy policies, ensuring they are effectively integrated across various platforms following acquisitions.
- Coordinate responses to incidents involving data breaches and privacy-related issues, including assessing regulatory notification obligations.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with executives, clients, law enforcement agencies, and legal representatives.
- Promote a collaborative team atmosphere while also encouraging a self-directed approach among team members.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on privacy compliance matters and best practices.
- Monitor changes in privacy laws and regulations, advising the organization on necessary adjustments to compliance strategies.
- Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure data protection measures are in place and effective.
- Prepare and present regular reports on compliance status and initiatives to senior management.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators and industry groups, to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in data privacy.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in privacy, regulatory compliance, or related legal roles, preferably within the marketing technology or data-intensive sectors.
- In-depth understanding of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and various U.S. state privacy laws.
- Knowledge of digital advertising regulations, consent management frameworks, and compliance standards for email and SMS marketing.
- Proven track record of establishing and scaling compliance programs in complex, multi-product environments.
- Experience in managing and mentoring compliance teams effectively.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex regulatory concepts into actionable business strategies.
- Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Nice to have
- Relevant privacy certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or similar credentials from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
- Juris Doctor or an advanced degree in law, compliance, or a related discipline.
- Experience addressing privacy and compliance issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks related to AI and machine learning, as well as emerging regulatory developments.
- Background in working with publicly traded companies, with an understanding of associated governance responsibilities.
- Knowledge of international privacy regulations beyond GDPR, including those from jurisdictions like Australia, Singapore, and Japan.
- Previous experience as in-house counsel, particularly within a technology startup context.

The compensation for this role ranges from $150,000 to $175,000, depending on the candidate's experience and location.
