About the role
You will own the technical direction and delivery of complex wastewater infrastructure programs for municipal clients across the Mid-Atlantic region from our Rye Brook office. You will act as the primary technical authority, shaping the engineering approach for collection systems, pumping stations, and treatment processes while ensuring solutions align with client goals and regulatory expectations. In collaboration with Client and Project Managers, you will lead multidisciplinary teams to translate project requirements into robust, cost-effective designs and rehabilitation strategies. You will evaluate and integrate emerging practices in biosolids management and renewable energy to enhance the sustainability and resilience of water systems. This role empowers you to mentor junior staff, uphold the firm's reputation for excellence, and drive projects from initial assessment through successful implementation. You will foster a collaborative environment where innovative engineering meets practical operations to deliver clean water solutions that benefit communities and protect the environment. What you'll do
Lead comprehensive collection system assessments and develop long-term master plans that address capacity, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Perform detailed pumping station designs and rehabilitation strategies, including hydraulic modeling, equipment selection, and resilience enhancements.
Evaluate municipal wastewater systems, optimizing collection infrastructure, treatment processes, and system performance through data-driven engineering.
Conduct thorough condition assessments and rehabilitation planning for aging infrastructure, utilizing innovative technologies to extend system lifespans.
Manage biosolids programs, ensuring effective handling, beneficial reuse, and alignment with environmental standards and community expectations.
Support the evaluation and integration of renewable energy solutions within water infrastructure to improve sustainability and reduce operational costs.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to advance project scopes, schedules, and budgets while maintaining a sharp focus on client satisfaction.
Champion proactive communication with clients, translating technical complexities into clear recommendations and actionable project pathways.
Contribute to business development by preparing high-quality technical proposals, conceptual designs, and compelling presentations for new engagements.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, elevating the collective capability of the Water Team through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Ensure all project deliverables meet or exceed applicable regulations, industry standards, and Woodard & Curran's rigorous quality benchmarks.
Leverage advanced tools and modeling techniques to anticipate system behavior, mitigate risks, and optimize long-term performance.
Promote a culture of safety, inclusivity, and continuous improvement within the team and across project engagements.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, building long-term partnerships based on reliability, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
Requirements
Demonstrate a strong professional engineering license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain licenses in other states as required by project needs.
Possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution.
Bring a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater collection systems, including design, assessment, and rehabilitation.
Showcase proven expertise in managing complex infrastructure programs and leading multidisciplinary project teams from concept through completion.
Exhibit in-depth knowledge of municipal wastewater treatment processes, collection system hydraulics, and pumping station design and operation.
Display familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including NPDES, Clean Water Act, and biosolids management requirements.
Demonstrulate strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Commit to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and safety in all client engagements and internal collaborations.
Nice to have
Possess extensive experience with biosolids management, including beneficial reuse, land application, and regulatory compliance strategies.
Have background in renewable energy development within water and wastewater infrastructure, including biogas, cogeneration, or related systems.
Show advanced proficiency in hydraulic modeling software and collection system analysis tools.
Demonstrate leadership in collaborative, client-facing roles within the Mid-Atlantic region, particularly in New York and surrounding states.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position with flexible remote/hybrid work expectations, requiring 2 to 3 days in the office or onsite with clients.
Travel may be required up to 20%, primarily within the Mid-Atlantic Region and generally within a two-hour radius of Westchester County.
