About the role

You will serve as the primary technical authority for the lifecycle management of critical SCADA infrastructure across municipal and industrial water and wastewater sectors. In this capacity, you will diagnose, resolve, and prevent complex system failures ensuring continuous, reliable operation for our client base. You will act as the central technical resource bridging the gap between software, hardware, and operational technology environments. This role demands a high level of ownership over system performance, uptime, and long-term optimization. You will proactively identify latent risks within control architectures and implement corrective measures before they lead to costly downtime. You will translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable information for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Success in this position is defined by your ability to restore service rapidly, enhance system capability, and build trusted partnerships with end-users.

What you'll do

Investigate intricate communication failures between HMI layers and PLC devices utilizing advanced diagnostic techniques on FactoryTalk, Ignition, and Wonderware platforms.

Perform rigorous testing and validation of control logic on Allen-Bradley and VTSCADA systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and operational safety standards.

Execute systematic upgrades and migration projects for legacy iFix and VTSCADA environments, ensuring data integrity and historical preservation throughout the transition.

Conduct detailed root cause analysis on persistent system anomalies, applying corrective actions and preventative measures to eliminate recurring issues.

Optimize historian performance and database architecture to improve data acquisition rates and reduce latency in large-scale industrial networks.

Deploy and configure redundant network architectures and disaster recovery solutions to maximize SCADA availability and business continuity.

Provide second-level support for cyber security incidents, applying security patches and configuration hardening in accordance with OT best practices.

Document all system modifications, standard operating procedures, and as-built drawings to maintain accurate records for future maintenance and compliance.

Lead on-site system commissioning and start-up activities for new installations and major retrofits, verifying functionality with end-user acceptance testing.

Train plant operators and maintenance staff on core SCADA functionalities, alarming strategies, and safe interaction with the human-machine interface.

Coordinate with networking and IT teams to resolve firewall, VPN, and protocol-specific issues impacting SCADA traffic and data historian connectivity.

Utilize remote access tools and secure connectivity methods to troubleshoot distributed sites efficiently while maintaining robust security postures.

Analyze system performance metrics and generate technical reports that drive informed decisions on infrastructure investments and upgrades.

Serve as the escalation path for Level 1 support, providing expert guidance to resolve high-priority issues impacting production and safety.

Requirements

Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship from the employer for this role.

Must possess a current, valid driver's license with a clean driving record to meet travel and safety requirements.

Must maintain a valid REAL ID driver's license or other TSA-approved identification for accessing secure federal facilities when required.

Must be physically capable of repeatedly lifting and carrying heavy equipment weighing up to 40 pounds during maintenance and installation tasks.

Must be comfortable and proficient working at elevated heights using ladders, scissor lifts, and elevated platforms as required by site conditions.

Must be able to safely perform troubleshooting and repairs on live control panels while wearing appropriate arc flash personal protective equipment.

Must strictly adhere to NFPA 70E safety standards and company safety protocols when working with electrical equipment and energized systems.

Must have reliable transportation and be able to meet flexible, often urgent, travel schedules including regional trips and occasional overnight stays.

Practical notes

This position involves regular travel to client facilities (typically within driving distance) for on-site troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, system upgrades, emergency response, and scheduled service visits.

Regional travel up to 50-70% (mostly day trips), with occasional overnight stays required depending on call-out needs and multi-day service work.

Offering Flexible Remote/Hybrid Work/Onsite Schedule: Hybrid work schedule (consisting of office, remote, and onsite, pending project needs)

This position is eligible for a $5,000.00 sign-on bonus.

• Must be physically able to lift and carry 40 lbs repeatedly
• Comfortable working from heights (ladders, scissor lifts, platforms) and in confined spaces
• Able to safely work on live control panels while wearing proper arc flash PPE and following NFPA 70E protocols
• Candidate must maintain a valid driver's license with no major infractions
