You will partner directly with clients to translate their operational needs into reliable, code-compliant systems that enhance safety and efficiency. This role grants you the autonomy to manage projects from initial concept through detailed design and into construction oversight. What you'll do
Investigate and analyze complex HVAC and plumbing system requirements for municipal, utility, and industrial facilities.
Develop integrated mechanical solutions that address heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and odor control within demanding project constraints.
Perform detailed engineering calculations, system sizing, and performance modeling to define optimal system configurations.
Author comprehensive engineering reports, studies, and specifications that clearly communicate design intent and regulatory compliance.
Produce and coordinate construction documents, including drawings and schedules, to ensure clarity for contractors and stakeholders.
Conduct thorough shop drawing reviews to verify that equipment and components meet project specifications and standards.
Implement rigorous QA/QC protocols to validate the accuracy and adequacy of all engineering deliverables before final issuance.
Provide construction phase services, including on-site oversight, problem resolution, and coordination with contractors and clients.
Interface directly with clients and project teams to gather data, clarify requirements, and manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
Leverage extensive expertise to solve emerging challenges in water treatment, manufacturing, and occupied comfort-sensitive environments.
Mentor and collaborate with junior engineers by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and supporting their professional development.
Utilize advanced engineering software and tools to model systems, simulate performance, and produce high-quality technical documentation.
Contribute to business development efforts by preparing technical responses and demonstrating solution capabilities to prospective clients.
Promote best practices in energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability across all assigned projects.
Adapt to varying project scopes, managing tasks independently while maintaining alignment with firm-wide quality standards.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
You must hold a current Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain licenses in other states as project needs arise.
You should have a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 8 years of progressive experience in mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing engineering roles.
Demonstrated experience designing or supporting systems for industrial, water, wastewater, or municipal facilities is essential.
You must be proficient in using AutoCAD, Revit, and other BIM tools to develop and document complex mechanical systems.
Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building codes, and mechanical plumbing design requirements is mandatory.
The ability to interpret technical specifications, client narratives, and conceptual sketches is necessary for success in this role.
You must be capable of managing multiple project tasks simultaneously while maintaining strict attention to detail and accuracy.
Nice to have
Experience with odor control systems and treatment process equipment is highly valued.
Familiarity with energy modeling, LEED, and other sustainability rating systems is preferred.
Background in water and wastewater treatment facilities is a significant advantage.
Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as H2OMAP or SewerCAD is considered a bonus.
Experience supporting design-build project delivery methods is desirable.

Hybrid: Expectation is to be in the office for a minimum of two days per week
