Site Civil Project Engineer

About the role

You will own the end to end civil engineering execution for site civil projects from initial client contact through final construction administration. You will translate client vision into buildable civil plans while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and project budgets. You will serve as the primary technical contact for consultants, contractors, and agency representatives throughout the project lifecycle. You will coordinate detailed design deliverables, manage project schedules, and uphold the highest standards of engineering documentation. You will apply your expertise in site development, utility systems, and stormwater management to solve complex field challenges. You will actively contribute to a collaborative team environment that values innovative solutions and sustainable practices. You will mentor junior team members by providing guidance and technical leadership on assigned projects. You will champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance our methods and deliver exceptional value to our clients.

What you'll do

Lead comprehensive site civil engineering analyses for development, utility, and stormwater projects across diverse sectors.

Perform detailed civil design calculations and prepare construction documents for site grading, earthwork, and surface water management systems.

Develop innovative grey and green stormwater solutions that meet regulatory standards and enhance site resiliency.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate civil infrastructure with architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Conduct thorough site investigations and assessments to inform design decisions and ensure project feasibility.

Prepare accurate project cost estimates and manage budget controls to align with client financial objectives.

Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and water quality standards.

Liaise with municipal agencies to secure necessary permits and maintain positive regulatory relationships.

Implement erosion and sediment control plans to protect water resources during construction activities.

Utilize advanced computer-aided design software to produce precise and construction-ready engineering drawings.

Manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on schedule completion of civil components.

Support project teams during construction phases by providing field reviews and design clarifications.

Evaluate existing infrastructure conditions and recommend rehabilitation or expansion strategies as required.

Contribute to business development efforts by preparing technical responses and supporting proposal packages.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

You must hold a valid Professional Engineer license in the state of Maine or be eligible for licensure upon hire.

You must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in civil engineering or a related field.

You must demonstrate extensive experience in site civil engineering, including site preparation and development for public and private sector projects.

You must have proven expertise in designing grey and green stormwater solutions for urban and suburban environments.

You must be proficient in using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering design software platforms.

You must have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, consultants, and agency officials.

You must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and high quality standards.

Nice to have

Experience with landfill expansion and closure projects is helpful but not essential for this role.

Background in parks and open space projects is helpful but not essential for success in this position.

Familiarity with project management software and tools is preferred to enhance team coordination efforts.

Experience working within the New England region is advantageous due to local regulatory nuances and climate considerations.

Understanding of sustainable design principles and low impact development techniques is valued for long term project success.

Practical notes

This is a full time position with a flexible hybrid work schedule requiring three days per week in the office.

The primary office location for this role is Portland, Maine.

Travel may be required up to 25 percent of the time to support projects in Northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

This role is based in the United States and may require authorization to work in the country depending on the candidate's background.
