About the Role
The successful candidate will partner closely with the Corporate Controller to uphold the integrity of the global financial ecosystem. This role owns the meticulous execution of month-end closing procedures, ensuring all journal entries are accurately prepared and recorded in a timely manner. You will be the owner of fixed asset accounting, implementing controls and processes to safeguard company assets. The position requires a deep dive into accounting guidance to research new standards and provide clear recommendations on application. You will drive improvements to company policies and procedures, establishing best practices for the accounting function. This role ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles across all reporting cycles. You will review international financial data to assist in the reclaim of value-added tax and other similar levies. Finally, you will review trial balances and financial statements to guarantee completeness and accuracy before external distribution.
What You'll Do
Perform the technical preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the monthly close cycle.
Calculate and validate estimates, accruals, prepayments, reserves, and provisions to ensure they are fully supported and compliant with US GAAP.
Own the fixed asset accounting lifecycle, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposal processes for the organization.
Analyze complex accounting guidance and translate technical pronouncements into practical application recommendations for the team.
Update and reconcile the consolidated general ledger to accurately reflect transactions originating from overseas operations.
Review financial reports generated by international bookkeepers to identify discrepancies and assist in recovering indirect taxes like VAT and GST.
Conduct detailed reviews of the trial balance and consolidated financial statements to verify accuracy and completeness.
Streamline month-end closing activities by identifying inefficiencies and implementing process improvements within the accounting department.
Serve as a technical resource for colleagues by investigating accounting discrepancies and providing clear, documented solutions.
Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures by monitoring compliance and suggesting enhancements where necessary.
Leverage advanced Microsoft Excel skills to manipulate financial data, build models, and automate components of the reporting workflow.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues and support strategic business initiatives.
Maintain a high standard of professionalism through positive interactions with all levels of the organization.
Utilize strong problem-solving abilities to investigate variances and reconcile differences in financial data promptly.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is mandatory for this position.
Candidates must hold a Certified Public Accountant license or demonstrate progress toward this designation.
Applicants must bring a minimum of three years of cumulative work experience in roles with equivalent responsibilities.
A strong foundational knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is a non-negotiable requirement.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and formulas, is required for success in this role.
The ideal individual must be a team-oriented self-starter capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
The candidate must be highly detail-oriented with exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities.
Nice to Have
Experience with prior year close processes and adjustments is preferred.
Familiarity with international revenue recognition standards is advantageous.
Knowledge of consolidation techniques for multi-jurisdictional entities is a plus.
Experience with automated close tools or scripting to enhance financial operations is desirable.
Understanding of internal control frameworks and SOX compliance is preferred.
Compensation
The base salary range is $90,000-$110,000 per year for full-time employment, exclusive of benefits. Your base salary will be determined by your individual skills, education, and experience. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical in order to allow for future salary growth.
