Bamboohr is seeking a skilled Wordpress Developer to join their growing team in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This full-time role centers on building, maintaining, and improving Wordpress-based websites and applications for both internal use and client engagements. The developer will be responsible for writing reliable code, solving technical challenges, and working closely with colleagues to deliver web solutions that meet business needs. Key facts

What you'll do

1) Develop and maintain Wordpress themes and plugins for various client-facing and internal projects at Bamboohr

2) Write custom PHP code to extend Wordpress functionality and address specific business requirements and use cases

3) Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to website performance, browser compatibility, and overall user experience

4) Collaborate with designers and fellow developers to translate visual mockups and wireframes into fully functional Wordpress sites

5) Update and apply security patches to existing Wordpress installations to maintain site safety and operational stability

6) Optimize websites for fast loading speeds, proper search engine indexing, and consistent mobile device responsiveness

7) Create and manage detailed content layouts using Wordpress page builders, custom fields, and advanced custom post types

8) Participate actively in code review sessions and help establish development standards and best practices across the team

9) Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to gather technical requirements and provide clear progress updates on development tasks

10) Document all technical decisions, code changes, configuration settings, and deployment procedures for future reference and team knowledge

11) Assist with the migration of existing websites to the Wordpress platform and ensure data integrity throughout the process

12) Review and update existing Wordpress documentation to ensure accuracy and relevance for current development standards

13) Coordinate with the quality assurance team to test new features and resolve any issues before production deployment

Requirements

1) Demonstrated experience developing with Wordpress, including custom theme creation and plugin development for production websites

2) Strong command of PHP programming, MySQL databases, and a thorough understanding of the Wordpress hook and filter system

3) Solid working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for front-end customization and integrating interactive elements into sites

4) Practical experience with Wordpress page builders, custom post types, taxonomies, and custom field management using advanced techniques

5) Thorough understanding of website security best practices, WordPress hardening methods, and protecting sites from common vulnerabilities

6) Proven ability to manage several development projects at once and consistently deliver work on schedule within a team

7) Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with designers, project managers, and external clients on a regular basis

8) A bachelor's degree or equivalent hands-on practical experience in web development, software engineering, or a closely related discipline

Nice to have

1) Prior experience with WooCommerce or other Wordpress-based e-commerce extensions for building online storefronts and payment integrations

2) Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative branching workflows for managing code changes across a development team

3) Previous exposure to building and consuming REST APIs for connecting Wordpress sites with external services and applications

4) Working knowledge of server-side caching mechanisms and content delivery networks to improve website load times and performance
