Senior Backend Engineer
Job description
About the role
This position directly influences how value moves on the internet by advancing the world's largest decentralized exchange and a DeFi-native Ethereum Layer
2. You will own the design and execution of the backend systems that power critical financial infrastructure at global scale. The role requires you to translate ambiguous product requirements into robust, production-grade solutions that other teams can depend on. You will collaborate closely with protocol experts and product teams to ensure your implementations align with the broader vision for decentralization and security. A significant part of this job involves mentoring junior engineers and elevating the overall capability and delivery of the backend team. You will spend time shaping technical direction during planning sessions and articulating trade-offs in a clear and concise manner. Success in this role is measured by your ability to drive strategic technical initiatives and influence priorities for the entire engineering organization. You will be expected to communicate complex technical decisions in plain words, separating strong engineers from the rest.

Be authorized to work in the United States and comply with E-Verify requirements as part of employment eligibility verification.
Nice to have
Previous experience in a technical lead role guiding cross functional decisions.
Prior work with time-series based monitoring and observability systems for backend services.
A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
Hands on experience with Typescript for scalable backend services.
Hands on experience with AWS services for deploying and operating production workloads.
Practical notes
Uniswap Labs participates in E-Verify as part of its employment eligibility verification.
Employees in New York are expected to work from the New York headquarters several days per week.
Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Backend work in this role centers on cloud native systems, high availability, and Web3 protocols.
Career growth depends on impact, ownership, and continued skill development in a fast moving environment.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
