Early careers - Software Development Engineer, Sales Engineering
Job description
About the role
Early Careers Full Stack Engineer, Sales Engineering
Join a team where your technical skills directly shape how the world buys Apple products. In this role, you will build the systems that power seamless experiences in Apple Stores and for partners around the globe. Your work will influence large scale operations that touch hundreds of thousands of points of sale. If you want to shape a flagship product ecosystem while learning how enterprise grade software reaches real customers, this position is a strong fit.
You will be responsible for designing and maintaining critical backend services and user facing features. Your daily work will involve writing business logic, creating API contracts, and implementing frontend components that partners interact with in store. You will gain practical experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines while delivering changes that improve reliability and performance. The role emphasizes ownership; you will see features through from design to production with guidance from experienced engineers. Collaboration across multiple teams is central, as you coordinate with colleagues in different regions to meet shared objectives. You will also explore how artificial intelligence can enhance development workflows, using new tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve code quality.
This position focuses on two core platforms that drive partner efficiency. DCOTA manages device workflows for a large installed base in retail environments. StoreFront provides a comprehensive interface for managing campaigns, fulfillment, support, and ticketing. Your contributions will help these platforms serve both store staff and customers effectively.
To succeed here, you need practical experience with modern software development. You should be comfortable writing code in at least one language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or Swift. You must understand how to build and consume APIs, and know how frontend and backend components communicate. Familiarity with data modeling and relational databases is essential. Experience with cloud platforms and continuous delivery processes is expected. You should also have a track record of building complete applications that connect server side logic with client interfaces.
The minimum bar for this job includes hands on coding ability and curiosity about technology. You must know how to structure information in databases and how systems scale in production. An interest in using AI tools to accelerate development work is strongly valued. A formal background in computing is one path to meeting these expectations; equivalent practical experience is also welcomed.
Preferred capabilities indicate deeper engagement with the stack. Experience shipping full stack features end to end shows you can handle complexity. Knowledge of infrastructure as code, monitoring, and automated testing is beneficial. Participation in personal projects that involve machine learning or advanced tooling demonstrates initiative. These traits align with Apple's focus on building intelligent, reliable software.
Location details, exact compensation bands, and benefits are outlined on the official application page. Employment terms follow local regulations and Apple policies. The company is committed to accessibility and equal opportunity. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified candidates.

- Build business logic that handles complex device workflows, inventory operations, and campaign management with precision.
- Optimize database schemas and queries to support efficient data access at scale across global retail environments.
- Automate deployment steps and improve CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery of high quality features.
- Collaborate with engineers in different regions to coordinate releases, share context, and resolve cross team dependencies.
- Apply artificial intelligence tools to assist with code generation, testing, and routine development tasks, improving productivity.
- Write tests, perform code reviews, and contribute to documentation that keeps the platform understandable and maintainable.
- Monitor service health and investigate incidents, partnering with operations teams to uphold reliability standards.
- Experiment with new patterns and tools, proposing incremental improvements that enhance partner productivity.
- Support diagnostic activities for issues reported by store staff and partners, using logs and metrics to identify root causes.
- Guide junior engineers through implementation details, pairing on design decisions and best practices for robust software.
- Ensure all changes comply with security policies, privacy requirements, and Apple's standards for enterprise software.
Requirements
- Demonstrate hands on coding ability by completing practical exercises or reviewing real code samples.
- Show understanding of how to structure information in databases and how systems scale in production environments.
- Write code in at least one language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or Swift, and explain your thought process clearly.
- Describe experience consuming and building APIs, and how frontend and backend components interact.
- Explain familiarity with data modeling and relational databases, including basic schema design and normalization.
- Discuss experience with cloud platforms and continuous delivery processes, including deployment and testing practices.
- Provide evidence of building complete applications that connect server side logic with client interfaces.
- Express curiosity about technology and interest in using AI tools to accelerate development work.
Nice to have
- Experience shipping full stack features end to end, handling complexity across frontend and backend.
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code, monitoring, and automated testing approaches.
