As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of Act 2 strategy, building the infrastructure that allows enterprises to seamlessly orchestrate AI agents, robots, and human-in-the-loop workflows to achieve critical business outcomes. You will partner closely with Lax and the Maestro backend team to ensure the core orchestration engine meets enterprise-grade standards for scalability and reliability. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role on a strategic bet that defines the future of enterprise automation. You will translate customer needs into elegant technical solutions while demonstrating deep customer empathy and understanding of end-user experience.

What you'll do
- Build and Scale: Design, develop, and maintain backend services for products using AI Coding Assistant for building distributed systems, ensuring robust architectures that support evolving enterprise demands.
- Hands-On Development: Write production-quality code daily, leveraging AI tools such as Claude and GitHub Copilot to enhance your development workflow and accelerate high-quality delivery.
- Customer-Centric Engineering: Deeply understand who will use the features you build and why they need them, translating complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications.
- Ensure Reliability: Contribute to building highly scalable, reliable distributed systems that enterprises depend on for mission-critical automation and operational continuity.
- On-Call Rotation: Participate in on-call rotation approximately one week every 2 to 3 months to respond to incidents and safeguard system reliability.
- Orchestration Innovation: Help define and evolve workflows for agentic orchestration platforms, enabling seamless coordination between AI agents, robots, and human stakeholders.
- Performance Optimization: Profile and optimize backend services to meet stringent scalability targets, reducing latency and improving throughput under heavy enterprise loads.
- Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with cross-functional teams, sharing knowledge and guiding junior engineers to elevate the overall quality and maintainability of the codebase.
- Tooling and Automation: Build internal tools and automation that empower engineers to develop, test, and deploy services more efficiently across the product lifecycle.
- Continuous Learning: Stay current with emerging trends in AI, automation, and distributed systems to identify opportunities for adopting new techniques that enhance product capabilities.
- Quality Ownership: Drive best practices in testing, monitoring, and observability to ensure that new features are reliable, debuggable, and easy to maintain over time.
- Stakeholder Communication: Partner with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders to clarify objectives and align technical solutions with strategic goals.
Requirements
- You actively use AI coding assistants such as Claude and GitHub Copilot in your daily development workflow to augment your productivity and code quality.
- You possess a builder mindset, loving to create things from scratch and seeing them through to production deployment and ongoing operation.
- You have strong C# expertise with proven backend development experience, writing clean, maintainable, and performant code.
- You demonstrate a rapid growth trajectory and a track record of delivering high-impact results in previous roles.
- You have experience building and maintaining distributed systems with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and operational resilience.
- You communicate excellently, with the ability to understand complex customer needs and articulate technical trade-offs to diverse audiences.
- You show deep customer empathy, thinking rigorously about the end-user experience and how your work solves real-world problems.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration to manage scalable deployments and services.
- A background in AI or ML systems, including familiarity with agentic workflows and related design patterns.
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms that enable complex automation across systems and teams.
- A history of meaningful contributions to open-source projects that demonstrate technical leadership and community engagement.

- This role may involve hybrid, office-based, or remote work arrangements depending on business and role needs, with the number of remote workers varying by team.
