About the role
The Principal Software Engineer role within the UiPath Site Reliability team is centered on owning the full lifecycle of critical SRE platform systems that define how UiPath operates at scale. You will identify reliability gaps that span multiple teams and take end-to-end ownership of designing, building, shipping, and driving adoption of the platforms that keep the company running. This means living inside the systems you create, integrating directly with other engineers, and removing blockers instead of documenting them. You will treat every service as a product, exposing it early to users and using their feedback to iterate until outcomes improve. Your work will directly influence the availability, scalability, and performance of the infrastructure that powers compliance, observability, and cost governance for the entire enterprise. You will balance hands-on coding with mentoring and process influence, ensuring that technical quality is maintained even as velocity remains high. This position is for a self-propelled generalist who thrives on ambiguity and turns complex operational problems into durable platform solutions.
What you'll do
- Design, engineer, and build SRE platform systems and capabilities with cutting-edge AI, treating them as products that other engineering teams depend on in their critical path.
- Participate in livesite monitoring rotations, handle escalations, and drive effective mitigations - aggressively reducing customer impact through broad, detailed, and effective postmortems.
- Drive availability, scalability, and performance improvements based on livesite learnings, and codify best practices by embedding them into the systems you build rather than only publishing documentation.
- Ensure technical deliverables meet or exceed expectations on reliability, scalability, quality, and performance, and lead architectural changes that significantly move the needle on these dimensions.
- Onboard other teams onto your platforms by driving outcomes yourself, writing integrations, pairing with their engineers, and removing friction instead of handing off documentation and waiting.
- Ship early, seek feedback relentlessly, and iterate fast, treating every user complaint as a design input rather than a support ticket.
- Drive task planning, estimation, scheduling, and staffing to align technical delivery with business priorities and operational needs.
- Mentor Software Engineers to develop their skills and knowledge through hands-on coaching, advice, and training opportunities.
- Participate in and influence process improvements and best practices across the engineering organization, ensuring that standards are lived, not just documented.
Requirements
- 10+ years of proven experience architecting and engineering world-class, large-scale, distributed commercial applications and services, with a track record of ensuring customer success.
- Experience building large-scale, complex internal platforms that are adopted by 10+ teams in their critical path at a large company, including systems that have stood the test of time rather than prototypes that were handed off or abandoned.
- Demonstrated ability to drive adoption of your systems by doing the hard integration work yourself, removing friction for other teams, and measuring success by outcomes delivered rather than features shipped.
- Experience building and maintaining complex AI-powered applications in production, leveraging modern AI techniques to solve operational and platform challenges.
- Proficiency in one or more object-oriented languages such as C#, C++, Go, or Python, backed by solid computer science fundamentals.
- Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, multithreading, synchronization, asynchronous patterns, and cloud programming.
- Experience with service-oriented and microservice-based architectures, HTTP applications, and web services, combined with strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, and alerting patterns.
- A commitment to building systems that are reliable, scalable, and operable, and a willingness to own outcomes across the full lifecycle of the platforms you create.
