About the role
You will own the end-to-end merchandising strategy for the Consumer category on the Udemy platform, defining how millions of learners discover and engage with learning offerings. You will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business objectives into scalable merchandising solutions that directly influence learner behavior and outcomes. You will design, execute, and interpret experiments that validate assumptions and drive continuous improvement in key discovery and conversion metrics. You will synthesize complex behavioral and performance data into clear narratives and actionable recommendations that guide product and marketing decisions. You will build trusted relationships with product, design, engineering, and analytics partners to ensure alignment and execution excellence across the learner journey. You will prioritize initiatives based on strategic impact, opportunity size, and feasibility, balancing short-term wins with long-term platform health. You will act as the subject matter expert for merchandising best practices and emerging trends, bringing innovative ideas to elevate the Udemy learner experience.

What you'll do
Develop and own the consumer merchandising roadmap, aligning strategic priorities with learner needs, business goals, and market opportunities.
Design and execute a rigorous experimentation program, running A/B and multivariate tests to evaluate merchandising interventions and optimize conversion, engagement, and retention.
Leverage qualitative and quantitative data to uncover learner behavior patterns, diagnose performance gaps, and identify high-impact growth opportunities across the discovery and purchase funnel.
Collaborate with product and analytics partners to define key metrics, establish guardrails, and monitor performance to inform data-driven decision-making.
Partner with marketing and content teams to ensure merchandising strategies are integrated with campaigns, content recommendations, and learner communication touchpoints.
Work with engineering to translate merchandising requirements into technical specifications, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and performant.
Own end-to-end ownership of major merchandising features, from discovery and ideation through implementation, launch, and post-launch optimization.
Establish and maintain clear dashboards and reporting frameworks to track the impact of merchandising initiatives on learner journeys and business outcomes.
Represent the Consumer category management function in cross-functional forums, aligning stakeholders and communicating priorities effectively.
Continuously scan the competitive landscape and industry trends to surface best practices and opportunities to differentiate the Udemy learner experience.
Champion experimentation culture across the organization, providing frameworks, tools, and insights that enable teams to test and learn efficiently.
Build strong relationships with internal partners to ensure merchandising strategies are feasible, well-understood, and supported across teams.
Translate complex analytical findings into clear, persuasive narratives that influence decision-making and drive consensus among stakeholders.
Balance learner experience with business outcomes, ensuring merchandising decisions support both value for learners and sustainable growth for Udemy.
Requirements
You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
You have 6+ years of experience in merchandising, product management, data analytics, or a related role.
You have 2+ years of experience managing and mentoring cross-functional teams or stakeholders.
You are fluent with data and analytics tools, including SQL and at least one visualization platform.
You have a track record of designing and executing experiments to drive product and business decisions.
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information.
You communicate clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
You have experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
You are passionate about learning and education technology, with an understanding of how adults learn and engage online.
Nice to have
Experience with marketplace or two-sided platform products.
Experience in the education, edtech, or online learning industry.
Background in behavioral economics or psychology.
Experience with A/B testing platforms and statistical analysis.
Familiarity with content strategy and learning science principles.
Practical notes
This is a hybrid role based in Colorado, with the expectation of working from the Denver office several days per week.
Travel is not expected as part of this role.
