What you'll do

• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, including commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.
• Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns.
• Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements.
• Conduct market research to assess material and labor costs, ensuring that estimates are based on current market conditions.
• Prepare and present bid proposals, including detailed explanations of costs and methodologies to clients and stakeholders.
• Review and evaluate subcontractor proposals, ensuring that they align with project requirements and budget constraints.
• Monitor project budgets and expenditures throughout the construction process, providing updates and recommendations as needed.
• Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the estimation process.
• Participate in project meetings and provide insights on cost-related issues, helping to facilitate decision-making.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project changes to support future reference and audits.
• Mentor junior estimators and provide guidance on best practices in estimating and project management.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance the estimating process and improve overall project outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of successful project bids.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes in Iowa.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to have

• Professional certification such as Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar credentials.
• Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
• Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, such as Primavera or Microsoft Project.
• Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within an estimating team.
• Familiarity with contract negotiation and management processes.
