What you'll do
- Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company's operational goals and project timelines.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to identify equipment needs and specifications for upcoming projects.
- Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and evaluate their offerings based on quality, price, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors to secure favorable terms and conditions, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with company policies.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain relationships to ensure timely delivery and quality of equipment.
- Manage the procurement budget, tracking expenses and ensuring adherence to financial guidelines.
- Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, including cost savings and supplier performance metrics, to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in equipment procurement to enhance operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure the timely delivery of equipment to job sites, minimizing downtime.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of suppliers, equipment specifications, and procurement history for future reference.
- Train and mentor junior procurement staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards in the procurement process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in the construction or heavy equipment industry.
- Proven track record of successful negotiations and contract management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess supplier performance and market conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Familiarity with construction equipment and industry standards is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to meet with suppliers and visit job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices in procurement and equipment usage.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a procurement team.
