What you'll do
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of each project site, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure that safety protocols are being followed effectively.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to integrate safety measures into daily operations and project planning.
- Provide training and orientation for new employees on safety procedures, emergency response plans, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Investigate accidents and near misses to determine root causes and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns from employees, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Foster a culture of safety by promoting awareness and encouraging open communication about safety issues among all team members.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to workplace safety, and adjust safety programs accordingly.
- Prepare and present safety reports to management, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
- Lead safety meetings and workshops to reinforce the importance of safety and share best practices across teams.
- Act as a mentor to junior safety personnel, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the construction or related industries.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Proven ability to conduct safety training and presentations effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks and develop effective safety strategies.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while traveling frequently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
