Product Manager, Intern
Job description
Product Manager, Intern at Tessera Labs.
About the role
This internship engages with enterprise AI automation products alongside product, engineering, design, and leadership. You explore customer discovery, define requirements, and help launch features for large organizations. The role offers hands-on ownership for a student comfortable in fast-paced startups who wants applied AI workflow experience.
Product managers decide what a team builds and why. They gather customer feedback, define requirements, and set priorities. Product work spans engineering, design, and business teams and ships products that solve real problems. The role combines research, writing, analysis, and decision making under uncertainty. Product work happens at the intersection of user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility. Most product managers own a roadmap and are judged by the outcomes their teams ship.
Key facts
What you'll do
Enterprise AI automation products are shaped through customer discovery, competitive analysis, and market insights. Product requirements and user experiences are crafted together with engineers and designers. Feature launches, documentation, and go-to-market planning receive support. A project or product area is owned by you, with recommendations presented to company leadership.
Requirements
A Bachelor's, Master's, or MBA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is pursued currently. Analytical and problem-solving skills are strong. Written and verbal communication skills are excellent. Curiosity about AI, enterprise software, and technology products guides your work. Ambiguous problems are broken down and thought through systematically. Fast-paced startup environments are comfortable settings for your contributions. Organizational skills and attention to detail direct your execution. A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn define your approach.
Nice to have
Prior internship experience in product management, consulting, software engineering, design, or a related field is valuable. User research experience or data analysis experience is beneficial. Familiarity with AI, SaaS products, or enterprise software increases your impact. Technical background or the ability to communicate effectively with engineers strengthens your contributions.
Practical notes
This internship is located in San Jose, CA or Remote (U.S.). The duration spans 10-12 weeks with up to 40 hours per week. The start date occurs in Summer/Fall 2026 with flexibility. Typical interview steps
Product interviews often include a product sense round, an analytical round, and a behavioral round. Candidates may be asked to design a feature, prioritize a backlog, or estimate a metric. Some loops include a case exercise. Strong candidates show structured thinking and customer empathy. Interviewers want to see how you prioritize when everything matters. Walking through your decision criteria out loud is a strong habit in product interviews.
Good to know
AI-native product design, building, and launch form core activities in this role. Product strategy, customer discovery, and cross-functional collaboration are central in enterprise software development. You work with tools and methods common in AI and SaaS environments while learning startup execution and prioritization.
Questions to ask
Useful questions for the interview: what a typical week looks like, how work is assigned, what tools the team uses, and how feedback works. Asking how the role has changed recently and what the team wishes it had known when joining is also reasonable. Questions about the manager's priorities are especially valued.
Career growth
Product careers usually move from associate to product manager, then to senior, group, or director levels. Some people specialize in growth, platform, or enterprise products. Others move into general management. Success depends on shipped outcomes rather than shipped output. Product careers often reward generalists early and specialists later. Experience shipping measurable outcomes is the strongest signal for promotion.
