About the role

In this position, known internally as the Grassroots Engagement Director, you will play a role in fostering and mobilizing a network of community leaders throughout Wausau and the broader North Central region of Wisconsin. Your primary responsibility will be to drive meaningful policy reform by identifying and empowering local activists, equipping them with the necessary resources to advocate effectively for change. You will serve as the critical bridge between the organization's strategic objectives and on-the-ground implementation, ensuring that local voices are amplified in policy discussions. The role demands a proactive approach to community mobilization, focusing on sustainable engagement rather than transactional interactions. You will be entrusted with the authority to shape local narratives and guide the direction of advocacy efforts in alignment with the organization's mission. Success in this position will be defined by your capacity to build trust, inspire action, and deliver measurable outcomes within the community. You will operate with a high degree of ownership over the full lifecycle of grassroots initiatives, from initial outreach to long-term relationship management.

What you'll do

• Identify and recruit community members who can spearhead local advocacy initiatives.

• Foster relationships with local organizations and stakeholders to amplify the impact of advocacy campaigns.
• Monitor and report on the progress of advocacy initiatives, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
• Engage in public speaking opportunities to represent AFP's mission and objectives within the community.
• Support the development of educational materials that clarify policy issues for community members.
• Coordinate volunteer activities to maximize participation and effectiveness in local outreach efforts.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of mobilization tactics and iterate based on data-driven insights.
• Establish a visible presence in the community to build credibility and trust with stakeholders.
