Pricing Engineering Manager
Job description
About the role
SpotHero operates as a marketplace that connects drivers with parking locations across the United States and Canada. The company maintains a technology driven focus on making parking simpler for drivers while providing efficiency for garage operators. Drivers use mobile and web applications to reserve parking, and garage partners rely on these systems to reach new customers. The organization continues to grow while modernizing its operations through coordinated software solutions.
This role exists within the pricing squad, which is accountable for the logic that determines rates across the marketplace. The manager will guide engineers in delivering reliable features that impact how prices are calculated and presented. Work will involve close collaboration with product, data, and operations teams to ensure that changes support marketplace health. The position requires hands on technical oversight and active participation in engineering practices.
What you'll do
You will manage the full lifecycle of pricing related engineering work. This includes translating demand signals into clear workflows that feed pricing experiments. You will define build plans that balance the need for stability with the ability to iterate quickly on rules and rates. Your team will maintain high standards for testing and observability to ensure changes are safe for drivers and garages.
You will coordinate release rituals so that squads, partners, and schedules remain aligned. This involves setting roadmaps in partnership with product and operations. You will translate constraints from business needs into shared technical outcomes. Attention to code quality and test coverage will be a priority to prevent technical debt. You will mentor engineers as they face scaling challenges and support them during incident response and on call duties. You will also contribute to organization wide engineering practices including on call readiness and DORA metrics.
What we're looking for
You bring at least five years of experience building distributed systems using Java, Python, Go, or JavaScript. You have at least three years of experience managing engineers on fast moving squads. You communicate clearly and prefer action when facing ambiguous situations. You have a history of building resilient systems and guiding teams through periods of growth and change. You are able to learn the current technology stack quickly, including Java or Python, Go, React, Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes.
Nice to have
Experience in backend development that directly touches pricing and business logic is valued.
Tech you'll work with
The engineering stack includes backend languages such as Java, Python, and Kotlin. Data storage involves Postgres, and frontend work uses React and Redux. DevOps tools include AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Prometheus, and Honeycomb. Data infrastructure involves Redshift, Airflow, and Looker.
