About the Opportunity
The School of Construction at Sait seeks an Instructor for the Geomatics Engineering Technology program. This is a temporary instructional role with a salary range of $102,963 to $109,876, dependent on qualifications and internal equity. The position is full-time, requiring 37.5 hours per week, with 43 days of paid vacation annually. The anticipated duration of the appointment is until June 30, 2027. The deadline to submit applications is 4:00 PM on August 18, 2026.

About the Program
The Geomatics Engineering Technology program at Sait delivers a robust curriculum covering land surveying, geographic information systems (GIS), global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), remote sensing, photogrammetry, cartography, geodesy, digital mapping, and related geomatics applications. The program blends theoretical instruction with hands-on laboratory work, field exercises, technical projects, and applied learning opportunities. Students graduate with the technical, analytical, and professional competencies required by modern geomatics technologists.
The curriculum emphasizes spatial data acquisition, project planning, technical communication, and professional problem-solving. Learners interact with industry-standard software, equipment, and workflows, preparing them for a dynamic professional environment.
Instructional Approach

How You Will Contribute
- Developing lesson plans and learning activities that support applied learning outcomes in spatial data acquisition and analysis.
- Leading laboratory sessions where students operate GNSS equipment and analyze remote sensing imagery.
- Designing and implementing assessment strategies that provide formative feedback and summative evaluation.
- Curating reference materials and learning resources to support the curriculum.
- Organizing field exercises that demonstrate geodesy principles using industry-standard tools.
- Maintaining curriculum relevance by reviewing trends in cartography, digital mapping, and related technologies.
- Collaborating with colleagues to share complementary instructional perspectives.
- Attending faculty meetings and school engagements, reporting to the program Academic Chair.
- Exploring interdisciplinary connections between geomatics and other academic programs.
- Supporting professional development by staying current with field of practice, teaching subjects, and pedagogical methods.
What You Bring
- A diploma or degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.
- Relevant geomatics industry experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of geomatics practice, such as land surveying, photogrammetry, or spatial data analysis.
- An iterative mindset and strong technical orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
- A passion for teaching and commitment to lifelong learning.
- A genuine desire to support student learning and development.
- Registration as an Alberta Land Surveyor (A.L.S.) and/or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is an asset.
