About the role

You will deliver direct support to faculty and students within the School of Transportation at Sait, ensuring that all learning environments remain safe, organized, and fully operational. This role requires a strong commitment to hands-on learning where you will manage the daily readiness of equipment used in heavy duty and autobody training. You own the maintenance and repair cycle of demonstration equipment, instrumentation, and mechanical components that keep the classroom functional. You will work closely with faculty to understand upcoming lesson plans and ensure all necessary tools and devices are available and calibrated. You own the monitoring of inventory levels for both equipment and lab consumables to prevent disruptions during practical sessions. You will maintain hand tools, power tools, and tool boards, ensuring that all tooling is accounted for and stored correctly. You contribute to the overall safety culture of the school by adhering to strict maintenance protocols and regulatory standards. You will serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting issues that arise in the learning environment, promoting learner success through operational excellence.

What you'll do

Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on all operational equipment used in the School of Transportation to ensure readiness for lab sessions.

Conduct preventative maintenance checks on demonstration equipment, instrumentation, and mechanical devices to minimize classroom downtime.

Inspect and service hand tools and power tools, verifying that they are safe, functional, and stored on tool boards.

Maintain detailed inventory records for all tooling, lab consumables, and mechanical components required for heavy duty and autobody training.

Coordinate with faculty to align equipment availability with course schedules and learning objectives.

Troubleshoot mechanical and instrumentation issues to resolve problems quickly and safely in a hands-on learning environment.

Monitor safety protocols and regulatory compliance for all equipment and tools within the laboratory and workshop settings.

Manage the ordering process for lab consumables and replacement parts, ensuring stock levels are sufficient to meet instructional needs.

Support the calibration and testing of analytical equipment to ensure accuracy for student demonstrations and experiments.

Serve as the primary technical contact for resolving equipment-related issues that could impact the delivery of training.

Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory changes to provide a clear audit trail for faculty and management.

Assist in the setup and breakdown of lab environments for practical sessions to facilitate a seamless learning experience.

Collaborate with trades instructors to identify wear patterns and recommend corrective actions for tools and equipment.

Promote a culture of safety and responsibility by ensuring all tools and equipment are returned to proper storage after use.

Requirements

Must possess a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician, or a closely related trade field.

Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.

Must have a minimum of three years of recent, applicable experience in heavy duty equipment or autobody repair.

Must demonstrate strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instrumentation.

Must be able to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation.

Must have the physical ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment and components as required in a shop environment.

Must pass a criminal record check and vulnerability screening as required by Sait policies.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, technical learning environment.

Nice to have

Experience with automotive diagnostic software and calibration tools.

Familiarity with school or post-secondary laboratory safety procedures and standards.

Knowledge of inventory management software or computerized maintenance systems.

Practical notes

Hours: 36.25 hours per week.

Leave: 3 weeks vacation per year.
