About the role
You will own the end-to-end accounting lifecycle for inventory and cost accounting, ensuring precise valuation and capitalization of landed costs across all product categories. You will drive the accuracy and integrity of the revenue and receivables month-end close, managing multi-channel streams in compliance with ASC 606. You will prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses to maintain clean general ledger records and robust internal controls. You will act as a primary liaison with external auditors, guiding inventory and revenue related testing and ensuring smooth compliance activities. You will partner cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Production, Planning, and DC Operations to align financial reporting with operational reality. You will lead and develop a small team, instilling habits of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement. You will stay current on changes in accounting standards and clearly articulate their financial impact on the business. You will support senior accounting leadership with timely financial results, reporting requests, and deep ad hoc analysis.

What you'll do
- Execute and own the full inventory accounting process for raw materials, work in process, finished goods, and in-transit inventory while validating and capitalizing landed costs accurately.
- Drive the standard costing methodology and perform detailed variance analysis to ensure cost integrity across all product categories and support pricing decisions.
- Manage the Allowance for Inventory Reserve process and maintain rigorous controls around inventory obsolescence and aging to protect margin.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Production, Planning, and DC Operations to resolve discrepancies and provide financial insight that improves operational efficiency.
- Own or support the revenue and receivables month-end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and analyses to ensure appropriate revenue recognition and financial statement accuracy.
- Oversee accounting for multiple revenue streams including direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and e-commerce channels while ensuring strict compliance with ASC 606.
- Monitor evolving business activity and accurately reflect new sales models and transaction structures within the financial statements as the business scales.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses across general accounting to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely execution of close activities.
- Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of scalable accounting processes and internal controls that strengthen the close and compliance environment.
- Act as the key technical contact for external auditors during inventory and revenue related testing, providing thorough documentation and clear explanations.
- Maintain awareness of changes in accounting standards and proactively assess and communicate their impact on inventory, cost, and revenue recognition.
- Lead and develop a small accounting team by setting clear expectations, providing mentorship, and fostering an environment of accountability and continuous learning.
- Build strong, trust-based working relationships with cross-functional partners including Supply Chain, Customer Love, Technology, Wholesale, and other Finance leaders.
- Support senior accounting leadership with financial results, ad hoc analysis, and strategic reporting requests that drive informed decision-making.
Requirements
- Bring 5 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience with a demonstrated focus on inventory and cost accounting, including some people leadership experience.
- CPA certification is required or you must be actively pursuing CPA certification.
- Show a solid understanding of inventory valuation methods, standard costing, and variance analysis within a retail, apparel, e-commerce, or CPG environment.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles in a multi-channel retail environment.
- Highlight exposure to or experience within a public company reporting environment as a strong plus.
- Prove strong ERP experience is required with NetSuite strongly preferred as the platform of choice.
- Show strong Excel proficiency including the use of Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and advanced functions to analyze data efficiently.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, translating complex accounting detail into actionable insight for non-financial stakeholders.
